Reading this article on mosquitoes made me wonder this lol. What if that was our main ecological purpose was being food to bigger predators?

Welllll, I mean ecosystem, nature is supposed to balance itself, right? Supposed to, yet we seem to have escaped from the grid.

Or we're just misled by time scales considered, relatively to Earth's life span, even if we have covered the world with our species, it was just one second ago. A second later, in a thousand years, maybe we'll be a food source again, unless we join the hall of fame of extinct species, replaced by... Another entity.

Would it suck, well, according to our species point of view, yes. According to nature, apparently not. Life will be life, no matter the species?

Seemed like that before civil society - I mean it horrifies me how many countries have man-eating bears, other wildlife that could easily overpower a human, etc etc
Horrifying to think of how cruel the jungle world would and could be. Thankfully we have civilisation and electricity (power)

Not cruel, an animal does not enjoy your suffering when feasting on your body. Our species is able to enjoy the sufferings of another being though, under this definition, we have a clear potential for cruelty.

So things are reversed here, it seems, about what cruelty is and where cruelty is located

Mosquito eats human blood and then itself is eaten by a predator. Thus the predator has effectively tasted human blood. Its only a matter of time before they cut out the middle man.

We are already on the menu for many large predators, bears, wolves, big cats, crocs, sharks etc will happily take us. It's only the fact we keep our distance that we don't see more fatalities. The truth is if you're wandering unarmed in their habit your main function is a tasty snack.
