But anyway, if you missed it, the gist is that Vivek and Elon think you and all the other Americans are stupid as fuck, and can’t compare to foreign tech workers, who are smarter and better educated, even though we told everyone coming out of high school the last 25 years that the future was IT and computer science, and that we’d all better get degrees and certificates for it. “America First” was just a line to get rubes to vote for them. They got it, and now they’re done with you. You’ll see. I sure hope I’m wrong, I wish you the best, but…. I'm not optimistic, sorry to say.

I understand (I don’t think undocumented people are really working tech, but foreign folks, yes) what you’re getting at, but I’m afraid your anger may be misdirected. We can go back to Reagan to blame for all the deregulation that resulted in American jobs being lost to foreign outsourcing.

The bad guy isn’t the government as much as it’s the business owners. These are the people living a life of luxury on beautiful estates, mostly because of others’ hard work, and price gouging of the consumer, plus likely being born into a position of privilege.

Those people vote Republican, and they donate big money to their campaigns. THOSE are the Republican politicians’ friends and who they’re loyal to. The regular people have just been tricked into blaming anybody BUT the aforementioned business owners for their troubles, BY the aforementioned Republican politicians, with the help of right wing media, also owned by right wing bajillionaire Rupert Murdoch. (Plenty of D and I politicians on the take too, by the way, from more bipartisan or left wing corporate interests, but this is Republican-specific, so let’s not get in the weeds here with the macro-issue of DC is fucked up by money. Everybody sucks, lmao), or they rope these people in on some cultural issue they’re hung up on, and can be talked into believing that voting Republican WON’T be directly against their own financial interests.

But the point is that none of these problems just started the last four years. And ultimately, it’s not the government that doesn’t want to see you paid your worth in favor of a foreign worker who will come in on an H1B visa, work for much cheaper, because A) they only can stay in the U. S. as long as they are still with the company they came to initially work for, or else they have to go home, and B) they likely come from somewhere with a favorable exchange rate and the U. S. dollar is worth a lot more back home where they may have family they’re sending money to, or are squirreling away in anticipation of returning. That’s exactly what Elon and Vivek want. And Elon especially has Trump’s ear. So that’s worrisome for American tech workers. It’s ultimately Trump’s call, but Elon donated A LOT of money, so….

What the overall problem MAGA has now and has to sort out, is that Trump just promised everything to everyone. If he’s addressing workers, he’ll deliver jobs. If he’s addressing gun enthusiasts, he’ll defend the 2nd Amendment. If he’s addressing xenophobes, he’ll close the border and mass deport people. If he’s addressing transphobes, he’ll keep men out of women’s sports. If he’s addressing Christians, he’ll get prayer back in schools. It’s whatever he needs to say in that moment. And it’s not like he’s having an audience of JUST this or that group at one time, but it’s sort of a Venn diagram where some people are racist AND want lower gas prices, or transphobic AND military hawkish on foreign policy.

So at a rally, you cheer for the things you support, and slough off the stuff you don’t agree with as much or just don’t care about one way or the other. But in practice, as President…. now all of these maybe-conflicting groups are going to clash in demanding Trump’s promises be made good…. but the problem is one group’s interests conflict with another pledged group’s interests. He’s set himself up to be damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.

But here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter anymore. He never has to campaign again. He doesn’t need any of these people anymore, especially anyone who can’t donate insane amounts of money. He may never leave, at worst. At best, you’d better believe the Republicans in all three branches and at the state and local levels will spend these next few years trying to rig the entire system up to legally favor them (and probably illegally too), so someone like Trump will have a clear runway to follow him.

This is their big chance to cut liberal influence that threatens them out of the equation to a significant degree, and they sure as shit will try. How much they succeed is the question. Like if you told me they’d preemptively move to expand the Supreme Court with Puerto Rico and DC and wherever while they can put even more conservative justices on, I wouldn’t put it past these crooked fucks. It’s not about representing all Americans to them, it’s about consolidating power for one party that AT BEST has like a 50/50 thing going on, and would have no problem seeing roughly half the country (who really just want people to be good to each other, for fuck sake) inconsolably dissatisfied with the country they live in and are likely stuck in due to family, etc.

But anyway, you have America First Steve Bannon and company vs Elon, Vivek, and the Trump Tech/Crypto Bros…. they want conflicting things. One faction or the other will be mad and turn on Trump, or Trump will turn on them first. He’s a megalomaniac narcissist who seems to have abandoned all the grocery prices promises and is instead trying to tell his people now that what they REALLY want is to rename the Gulf Of Mexico to the Gulf Of America, because that would be so alpha.

You realize your work and attitude must make your salary worth while to the company otherwise they'll find someone better to give the job to, or they'll find someone cheaper for what work you do. 85k is a lot of money. America currently has very low unemployment rate. Basically everyone who wants a job, can get one and its gotten to the point where industry leaders are upset that unemployed people have so many open options for employment that they have to offer better benefits and wages to actually employ them.

Unemployment rate doesn't account for underemployment rate. Sure, there may be plenty of fry cook jobs making $15 and hour, but what about the good-paying white-collar tech jobs? That is the point of the thread. Of course, the lefties want to even the playing field for the common person. To them, the software engineer should gladly accept the fry cook role because there are others that work that role too. It doesn't matter the sweat, anger, and tears one put forth to become skilled.

He is most certainly a contributing factor. Tech roles fell in 2022 and beyond, and over half a million software engineers were laid off. Meanwhile, the Xiden admin increased interest rates and continued to allow foreigners to swipe up these tech roles. Also, considering the overall state of the economy and inflation, it made employing Tech workers more difficult.
