On Martin Luther King Jr. day, how far do you think we've come in terms of the fight for equality in the US and around the world?

Around the world doesn’t matter to me, as much as America (my home). Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at the ‘March On Washington’ which specifically was about black people getting opportunities for jobs & moving up the social ladder. He spoke about one day black boys & black girls can play with white boys & white girls, that there be unity and a day where we no longer hold individuals back on their skin color and view them as fellow citizens… With this whole “DEI”, talks that we should bring back slavery, and toxic discussions against the possibility that we can minimize damage caused by over-policing (police brutality, swatting, and raids that disproportionately overwhelmingly affect the members of the black community). We have made great strides though the fight for a voice, a positive legislative impact, and ability to climb the social ladder is not over. Not at all. MLK Jr.’s father was a Republican, though MLK Jr. worked with President LBJ to pass legislation that helped raise his people up! We can learn from history and see how lives are impacted today or pretend it was solved and there’s no more work to be done. Do the work! Speak up! Build communities! Lift everyone up! America succeeds when we all succeed!
There is no comparison between how things were during the civil rights struggles and today.
Few of the people who are yammering about racism today were around during the segregation era. They have no idea how much progress has been made.
Today, nothing is segregated. Black roll models are ubiquitous on TV and in film. Black entertainers are pervasive. Mixed partnerships and marriages are common.
Race relations progressed tremendously over the past 50 years, aside from examples of racism in police departments. But that was changing, as well, as spotlights were shined on the problem.
Are there still people with racist views? Yes. But those views are unpopular and racism is gradually disappearing.
There is still progress to be made in eliminating racist attitudes in individuals. But we have come a long way since the days of Martin Luther King Jr. I think his dreams have been realized.
Right. There has been tremendous progress since the days of segregation. People in countries other than the US think the the US is racist through and through, which is total BS. It has to do with how the news is reported, and it is mostly negative news that people are interested in watching. Individual racism still exists, but is largely frowned upon here in the US.
Just stick to the US.
he has done a lot and broke barriers. His dreams did come true in a some sense.
Will it ever be exactly…doubt it. Humans will always create hate.
the best we can do is model acceptance and love one another.
Legally a long way, in terms of attitude very little.
People are under the illusion that because a law exists, like Title 9, or Anti-discrimination laws, that people a)will actually abide by them or b)will suddenly believe in them or what they stand for. We've had these laws on the books for years now, and yet every day, every month, every year, there is a case where clearly someone has violated these laws so I cannot agree more.
Read my mind.
As an individual, I can only do so much to demonstrate my belief in equal rights and demonstrate my belief in word and action, toward those who feel the discrimination of much of society. I can only ask that my black friends and brothers meet me half way in my personal effort to demonstrate my belief in equal rights for everyone of every color.

Ask people who grew up in other countries but are in the US now how racist the US is, and you will likely hear stories about how much better the US is compared to where they are from.
I'm not suggesting that racism doesn't exist - there will always be a few racist people in any group, but compared to most of the world, the US is doing much better than most. That's one of the reasons why immigrants from around the world want to come here. Those who have experienced REAL systematic racism will tell you that the US is one of the best places on Earth.
The goal here is equality, NOT this BS idea of "equity" or "equal outcomes regardless of value delivered". That's communism, and it's never worked and never will.
Yes I agree. Racism is still "a way of life" in many countries, but is mostly frowned upon here in the US. You can find examples of racism if you look around, depending on where you are. But it is mostly unpopular and not nearly as pervasive as it was several decades ago.
The greatest thinkers/visionaries tend to get murdered by the government. The fact there's a lot of people claiming to speak for the masses who haven't been shot at tells you that they are paid actors.. working for the same people who would kill anybody (regardless of race) to make a buck. Most people don't want to believe this tho.
Far as "equality"... it's fine when you realize that people are only "equal" when they are born and based on what they are taught or actions they take their life takes shape beyond that. Listening to "do gooders" who claim to want the best for minorities but secretly hate minorities has held many people back.
From the bad old days after WW2, race relations started to improve particularly after Claudette Colvin, Brown versus Board of Ed in the 50s and the Republican civil rights legislation in the 60s. There was initial backlash but it improved dramatically up to and including the election of Barack Obama. But he single handedly and intentionally set race relations back 20 years with Biden further stirring the pot.
MLK and Harriet Tubman were Republicans. Republicans outlawed Slavery. Republicans advanced race relations. It is out of historic guilt that CSD leftists project racism on Republicans without evidence.
I think we've gone backwards. MLKjr's dream is for a people who don't care about race and color, yet that is what the media and politicians keep pointing out, how blacks voted for example.
Personally, I don't care what color people are. I've known and worked with people from all over the world.
I really respect MLK Jr. He was definitely too smart to write his own speeches and just plagiarized other people’s speeches. He was also smart enough to not be personally assaulted by counter protesters using the non-violent tactics but let his underlings get beaten while he was busy “organizing” the next demonstration. He also didn’t just settle for a monogamous relationship and had multiple affairs while traveling to “fight inequality” and may have, in fact, been at a sex party/orgy the night before he was unalived. Simply saying that white people were so racist that they couldn’t stand his peaceful tactics is laughable considering the hit may have come from inside the ranks of his own movement because, as it turns out, people don’t like getting their heads smashed in while the leader gets off unscathed.
Better than ever. Social media and media in general makes it seem otherwise but the world not just the USA is safer than it's every been statistically. Obviously there are parts that are worse than it's ever been, but overall homicide rates, violence, rapes, etc are lower than they have ever been. And cross-culture, multi-ethnic countries, are higher than they've ever been
I feel that we were at the best with race relations from the 80s to the 2000s and crashed with the 2010s when SJWs ran amuck. They claim that minorities and women are still oppressed while somehow being able to successfully manipulate the very people that supposedly oppressed them to ban others for anything that dares criticize minorities and women while they can threaten to kill the rest of humanity with no punishment.
Gen X, in my opinion, was the least bigoted generation as they grew up under the mantra of defining someone by character and ideas than race or sex. That all went out the window with millennials and it seems to me that Gen Z is bouncing back from that a bit.
There's been a HUGE amount of progress since his time. HUGE! I don't see how anyone could deny that unless they have no idea how it was in the past.
Don't listen to the media and politicians.
We got nowhere! Some people say x lives matter but run away when it comes to my human rights. Even if it’s just one human you’re bullying, it counts. Scammers from India are trying to know my personal information pretending to be educational counsellors for overseas education. So much chaos! People think one human like me doesn’t count but I matter!
the world is a big question.
US, I think most have a lot of equality. But there is huge economic inequality. A lot of that, is due to choices, some is due to misfortune. We will have to deal with it.
Trump's advisor just sig heiled three times during the inauguration, and they cheered. We made a step forward with Obama, and the five steps back with Trump.
You've been fed a steady diet of leftist rhetoric by the legacy media for the last 8 years. The left thrives on the illusion of racism and sexism, so they work very hard to foster it. But guess what, the legacy media is dead.
So come back and ask the same question four years from now.
Democrats are still being racist as fuck and the Christians are still trying to make America great.
The churches are cucked my brother
@Oncewildtwiceburned The church is the people on the street, not the building... Always remember that, but yeah I know where you are coming from... The deep state/deep church attack all institutions on the face.

One of the presidential advisors, Elon Musk, just did 3 Nazi salutes, and they cheered. Gtfo here with Democrats are the evil ones.
@NimbleOcelot The problem for you is that you are the “Socialist” in the room as in National Socialist Nazi and your party intentionally aligned themselves with the 6uild 6ack 6etter Great Reset agenda of the World Economic Forum which was founded by an influential Nazi Party member Klaus Schwab. Klaus Schwab’s father was the managing director of Escher Wyss Ravensburg who manufactured weapons for the Nazi party and his company was awarded in recognition as a “National Socialist Model Company” during the Third Reich. Since you seem interested in South Africa, Klaus Schwab was sent by Escher Wyss Ravensburg when he worked under the tutelage of his Nazi father to Apartheid South Africa to assist in strengthening their nuclear weapons program so that they could resist calls to desegregate and maintain Nazi supremacy in the country. The World Economic Forum which is run by the Nazi Party, has pushed it’s policy into Global Non Government Organizations such as the World Health Organization, Club of Rome, and the United Nations in a play to create a world government run by the Nazi party. The American Democrat party openly and wholeheartedly stood in lock step with the Nazi party for the past several years. Your party openly and proudly flew Ukrainian flags in support of the Nazi run government in that country and rallied your support behind Hamas in it's attack against Israel. In contrast Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the World Health Organization within the first hour or so of office and brokered a cease fire in Israel before returning to office. So we know were you stand and were we stand, and we are diametrically opposed to your policy and aspirations for global domination. Elon can give his heart to whoever he pleases and you can keep your hammer and sickle...

Tf kind of bullshit have you been reading or watching? The democrats are nazi? That must be why they keep choosing black presidential candidates and promoting diversity. Meanwhile, Republicans are against diversity and openly sig fucking heiling. Stop trying to use shit from 100 years ago to try to describe what is happening today. WHO was founded by the United Nations, which fought against Nazi Germany anyway.
@NimbleOcelot Yes, you are a Nazi. Your political party is directly allied with the Nazi Party world wide. One of your party’s largest political donors is also a policy author of the World Economic Forum and is a documented Nazi collaborator in WWII. The evidence has been on display for the last decade or so, your propaganda and poor math skill won’t save you.
First off, I never picked a side. Second of all, the democrats aren't affiliated with the Nazi party. I'd like to see actual, current proof for your conspiracy theories. And finally, it's not the left sig heiling, and it's not the left that the kkk supports.
Also, we aren't talking about WW2. We are talking about the current government and WHO.
@NimbleOcelot Democrats started the KKK dipshit,,, You’re entire Nazi empires going to crumble chucklenuts and you’re going to get to watch it happen, that is until you get scooped up. Nobody can be as dumb as you… So stop LARPing, we know you’re complicit.
So far only a christian based government has had the philosophical foundation to accept people coming from all different nations and racial backgrounds.
Though, there are some examples they still have racially culturally or religiously superior beliefs
By the very bill of rights and its founders we had an exclusive government unprecedented and unmatched at the time. I wouldn’t argue fascist national socialism with an atheist, or currently trending political porn
*inclusive
he did a lot for negros, but those blacks didn't like that word so they went back to the N-word. i bet he would have been a good rapper, but he said he could never flow like that. somebody needed to give that igga a beat nawsayin!
I’m not sure it matters bc no matter how hard the climb we! ve already made, we just got pushed over the the slippery slope and, unfortunately, the slide down can be fast.
Was taking a bus home from work and someone boarded and told me I need to leave this country and stop stealing American jobs. Apparently we haven’t gone far
I mean, they didn't just randomly pull that out of their ass. I mean, let's be honest.
You can argue it's wrong to generalize/stereotype like that, but it's not like they feel that way for no reason.
@KostasKouvalis does that make it right to target someone who is actually a CITIZEN?
No. That's what I'm saying. I never said it's right, I just said I understand why they do it. They don't know that you're a citizen.
@KostasKouvalis exactly. They make a stupid comment meant to offend someone over something they don’t even know.
It’s come a long ways, but the media in America needs to back it down and not push the issue it fuels the fire for hate
feels like we've taken some giant steps backwards when we have a former president of the United States who also happens to be black, trying to tell everyone who looks like him, who to vote for. Control by skin color seems to be a real thing and I doubt very much that MLK would be in favor of it.
A good way in the US but that's not to say we don't have far to go. Still we had an African-American president which was unthinkable 50 years ago.
Equality isn't real, equity is the standard.
In my opinion further than most people think but that doesn't mean there isn't still distance.
Well said...
The forefathers of the USA already seen the proverbial dream. In reality today, equality comes down to accepting guys with vaginas and women with penises and not so much about color.
A white man got sworn in today as president and took away from the African American holiday and its meaning. We are going backwards
When society becomes stagnant, we start to fiddle with things that aren't broken. It's sometimes referred to a progressive or woke ideology.
The people who were fighting for equality finally got it, and now they are fighting for special treatment. We've gone backwards. The majority is now being discriminated against.
Progress has been made but chucklefucks still screech about racism not being institutional and baked into every facet of USA life.
It's not solved, it's subtle now.
If the loony lefties would've just let it drop, already, we could've been a LOT farther along, by now!!
''Equality'' and ''fight'' does not go well when combined.
How else would you describe it?
The term ''fight'' disturbs me. It indicates mutual aggression.
I'd rather call it ... ''activism''?
How far we have come:
We have replaced the dominance of certain phenotypical people
with
the dominance of commerce and wealth.
Nowhere nearly far enough, and unless the world's decent majority fight this recent turn towards Fascism, we'll be back in the 1940's (or even farther back) by 2030 !!!
With the election for a second term Donald, it's a disappointment and backwards
Had Harris been elected or had Biden won a second term, I'd have said progressing well :)
He'd be impressed in some aspects but I think overall he'd be appalled.
===BREAKING===
It's official... with one foot already out the door during his last minutes in office, Biden preemptively pardoned his entire "10 percent for the big guy" crime family member list.
Biggest scumbag president and family in US history. Thanks Democrats!
LOL, equality and the US? Martin would be laughing at the US, not with.
I think racism has flipped , the democrats now blame white people for everything. I say this as a Cherokee
Equality? What? Now it's all about equity.
Equity means that you don't have to be good at brain surgery in order to perform brain surgery.
i think that DEI is a huge return to racism and sexism that he helped a great deal to fight back.
Racism still exists, lgb and especially t’s are about to have a rough four years. We made some progress but still have a ways to go
We've come a long long way. A lot of progress has been made but there are still racist individuals. We can't control that
As long as alleged “good Christian people” teach hate to their children, nothing will change…
As long as anyone teaches hate to kids, nothing will change and as long as people turn a convenient blind eye to the suffering or inequality of others, nothing will change. I asked a friend of mine who is a different culture from me, how they deal with the elders in the community who can often be very racist, homophobic, etc., and he told me point blank, we're just waiting for them to die off.
Far. Trump and man sho was friends with MLK is now president again and the guy who opposed him Biden is out.
Very far, I like how Mlk jr has more impact on improving society than Christ Jesus
😂🤣🤣
Backward about 20 to 30 years thanks to the American right wing which consists mostly of racists.
Some unmentionable modern countries seem to be taking leaps backward.
Seeing how trump is signing "stay in mexico" exec orders, I think not well.
I think we've come a long long way , but hate in all forms will always exist
Seems to me things didn't change a lot, other than becoming less straightforward.
Sadly we've gone a bit backwards.
We haven’t moved a single step
Woman were just set back so...
Better than the majority of the world.
We still have a long way to go.
About 75% of the way there.
Not there yet, but pretty far
Not very far and its sad
Do you think the next generation has a chance to change it, or more of the same?
Not as far as it appears
Why r you hiding?
We put a racist in the white house, again
Not so much…
Far enough
