If you actually watch the full, unedited video, he is clearly saying his "heart goes out to you," and making the gesture accordingly - once to the people in front of him, and again to the rear. Elon Musk routinely fails to do gestures on stage. Also, there is a myth going around in USA that to be successful you have to be smart or charismatic. That is not true. Most of the rich people in USA got there through connections, inherited wealth or what is basically gambling.

If you look at any aspect of his life, ranging from his personal life to his business dealings, I am forced to conclude that they are all motivated by his own incompetence. The fact that he is being protected from the consequences of his actions AKA failure, is more an indictment of the current state of society and capitalism in USA.
