Public schools are funded by tax payer money. Places of worship aren’t.

As I bad as I feel for illegal immigrants that are children it still really isn’t our responsibility to spend our money and resources on them permanently. That doesn’t mean I want them to be mistreated or left unfed. But we already have a hard enough time with getting resources for our native born children to attend public schools. Now we are expending additional resources of illegal immigrant for public education?

As for places of worship some institutions may feel spiritually obligated to protect illegal immigrants. But scripture can get twisted so I’m on the fence about that one. And again places of worship are NOT taxpayer funded.

I rather have ICE start with the worst and work their way down on the deportations:

1) Are you an illegal who is in jail for committing a violent crime? Adios asap.

2) Are you an illegal wanted for a violent crime? We will track you down and then again adios.

3) Are in an illegal for a non-violent crime? Well you are still an illegal who wasn’t supposed to be here in the first place. Your next. Bye.

and so forth. Innocent illegal children should be the last to leave. But they do eventually need to leave.

Don’t what your source was but it’s my understanding that what the mayor said was that there is a state law prohibiting detaining prisoners past their release date, so the city will not cooperate with ICE requests to do so. However, they will release prisoners into ICE custody if ICE requests them to do so. The mayor is not responsible for establishing state law, but he is responsible to follow the laws set by the legislators of his state. I don’t see how that’s not cooperating with ICE.

Back in April I was almost killed by an ilegal alien who sped right through a red when I was walking my bike (I had the full white walk right away). Our states tax rates are skyrocketing. Downtown Denver (which was once very family friendly) has continued to decay with crime. You know that national news story about about Tren De Aragua taking over an apartment building in Aurora? While I do live in a nice neighborhood that horrifying incident was only 8 miles from my house. And I once got a Uber right from a middle aged woman who lived only a half mile from that location and she (very angrily) verified that all that bullsh*t was true and local woke mayor was trying to downplay it.

Also Colorado was one the only states that bucked the red wave trend during the November 2024 election. Biden won by 13.5 points in 2020. Kamala won around 11.5 points.

What I am getting at is this state is now filled with radical leftists (who immigrated from other blue states to do “missionary” work here to turn CO extremely liberal). So it’s no surprise that Mike Johnston would do something so insanely ridiculous. Yes he will eventually need to comply or (rightfully) be arrested for defying federal law. But even local news media outlets lean very far left here. Look at this “non partisan” editorial from the Denver post.

@blueonblack22 I’m not arguing any of that, but you very specifically targeted the Mayor of Denver. And I don’t think it is fair to blame individual officials, at any level, for following the law. The proper place to lay the blame would be with the State Legislature and, possibly, the Governor. When officials start taking it upon themselves to unilaterally decide whether or not to follow existing law, then we are no longer protected by the rule of law. If it is a bad law, take it up , appropriately, with the Legislative Branch. Knowing how reasonable and knowledgeable you are, I have trouble believing you would disagree with that.

In fact not enough people pay more attention to local politics vs. national federal ones. Although local politics often gets less news attention people could do better.

Also just FYI I have lived in and volunteered in impoverished latino countries before. I’ve seen the flip side of honest hard working people who just want a better life.

I grew up on the Mexican border, so spent a lot of time in parts of Mexico. It would seem that we have several life experiences in common. I lived for several years in Guatemala and Ecuador. And, while I will not say what my legal run in was with someone here illegally, there is a very long prison sentence being served. While I do not believe anyone should be living/working here illegally, I think the issue is not as simple as people make it out to be. I used to be an Aide to a Legislative Advocate (Republican, believe it or not!) and I completely agree that our local governments are extremely important bc that is where we, as individual citizens, can have the most impact.

But I’ve also seen the flip side. In fact I personally know someone who is in Colorado that shouldn’t be and is completely milking the tax payer funded benefits (which I am paying for). This a young and completely able bodied person too. Yet this person doesn’t want to legitimate work nor put any effort into learning English. I know more Spanish then this person knows English and they have been here for 2 years now.

I felt initially felt sympathy for this person and I offered to help them learn English and give them advice on getting better acclimated. I even bought them groceries a few times. Went as far to offer to pay for their English classes. They refused and just said they didn’t want to do it.

Anyway this person will very likely get deported. And I really don’t have much sympathy for them. They didn’t want to acclimate and came here with a sense of entitlement. Those types of illegals really do exist.

Anyway I know complaining doesn’t solve anything. Need to get more involved besides just voting. But one think I really HATE about modern politics is that everybody is forced to take a side. It’s either all or thinking. You can’t be a conservative democrat or a liberal republican. Just no middle ground.

I am very much with the opinion of the woman Bishop who spoke to Trump at the church service he was at (or was it his inauguration? I don't know as I don't watch news anymore. He needs to be more passionate, kind, and understanding with these people who have no where to go but here or to Mexico with no means to.
