Will employers avoid black candidates out of fear of being accused of DEI hire?

If I was an American boss I would not employ any black people. I'm not racist but with the end of DEI and Trump's orders to, "report any efforts to "disguise" diversity initiatives in their agencies or face "adverse consequences" I would be frightened that doing so would see me under attack.

Anyone who felt disgruntled they didn't get the job could make accusations it was DEI appointment and I'd have the hassle of having to disprove it. The best candidate for a job isn't necessarily the most qualified or experienced, experienced doesn't mean good.

So, are we going to see this in America? Are employers going to bin black applications out of fear of a right-wing backlash? Are we going to see "No blacks allowed" signs on job adverts?

When googling DEI, all you see are bullshit articles claiming that "DEI" began with equal rights legislation in the 1960s and the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972.

But it's a testament to the corruption of Google that you can't get a straight answer regarding the acronym "DEI". When was that acronym coined and by whom?
Type in those letters and you get obfuscation.

Ending racial segregation and discrimination has already been dealt with. So has equal opportunity for women. Even homosexuality has been accepted and is no longer an issue. So "DEI" is not about those things.

I did find a reference that said "In 2009, the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was formed by Lester A. Lefton" at Kent University. Is that the first reference to DEI?

DEI became known when they made it part of the K-12 school curriculum a few years ago. The initial warm and fuzzy excuse was to teach kids to be kind and inclusive toward non-heterosexuals. But it wound up going much, much further than that.

That is why big corporations like Target or Bud Light went blatantly "woke", to the detriment of their shareholders and profits.

DEI is an aspect of the ESG social agenda.

I've heard that more and more businesses are abandoning ESG.

So if, as I already indicated, DEI isn't about discriminating against racial groups or women, what is it about? I would say for the normalization of radical LGBTQ. It is a requirement to hire and promote more LGBTQ. It means penalties for not using preferred or gender-neutral pronouns.

But it is also a mandate to prioritize the hiring of "marginalized" minorities based on their race, gender, and gender identity rather than hiring the most qualified people for the job.

Is a fat trans-woman the best qualified person for the job of U. S. Assistant Secretary of Health?
Is a DEI hire most qualified to be a fire fighter? The lesbian fire chief of Los Angeles County said “you want to see someone respond to your house that looks like you." Really?

I'm overjoyed to see the end of this nonsense in schools, business and government. It will not prevent the hiring blacks or other racial minorities, women or even homosexuals if they are qualified for the job. It will no longer prevent businesses from hiring white heterosexuals, either, if they are the most qualified.

It's time to return to common sense and for woke liberals to crawl back into their safe spaces.

All that will happen is that the US will go back to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws that they had on the books before DEI existed.

It would be because it is no longer required, it is a known fact that employers tend to not hire you if you have a ‘black’ sounding name.

Let’s say we have the same person named, “Andrew” right? And Andrew A only worked at McDonalds as a janitor for 1 month before applying for a job as a custodian for this job, now you have Andrew B who worked at Five Guys over the past 15 years (the place closed down) who is a dedicated worker…. Andrew B happens to be African American though clearly Andrew B is more qualified.

‘DEI’ made it where you couldn’t discriminate on a person’s religion, background, gender, or color so clearly with it stripped away…. There will be more barriers & hurdles for those kinds of people (different from you & me) to get a good position. MLK Jr. spoke at March on Washington which the purpose of the ‘Civil Rights March’ was for 1. Pushing for more African Americans in job positions and 2. Pushing for Civil Rights Freedoms across the board to go up the social ladder.

It is scary hiring humans in general, so I respect your view to go with whom you trust. It wouldn't stop me. I will always hire the best person I can get for the job. Race doesn't factor into it. As I mentioned in another post, the last time I had a job with a big crew, it looked like an ad for multiculturalism - but I didn't hire them for their diversity, but because they got the job done when others (of all races) couldn't or wouldn't.

I don't give a damn about diversity of race or religion or sexual preference, I care about merit and performance and whether or not that person is a management problem. It's work, not a social club. Work is for work, not socializing and not for activism.

This is the flip side of DEI. From the very start, every time someone was not hired for any reason, they claimed "racism". Which is a MAJOR part of why those programs were hated so much in the first place. They were counter productive and only served to increase racial tension.

No doubt racism still exists. It always has and always will. But there comes a point when all the tools are in place and you just have to let it take it's course. You can't micromanage forever. Some of these DEI type programs have been around a very long time.

What a lot of people forget, is that no democratic government can tell you who you can and cannot employ, unless you are legally signed up to a specific agreement. For example no foreign nationals in national security roles.

DEI was just a part of the Equality Act. We will actually see more military vets and disabled employees getting ditched rather than Blacks, Jews and others. Mainly as more provisions need to be made to keep these vets and disabled in a job, than your average able bodied.

No, because if a black person is the best candidate for the job the company wouldn't want to pass them up. What a silly thought process. Why would a company pass up on a good candidate? They only hire bad candidates because they're forced to for quota purposes. When I was younger I wanted a certain job in law enforcement. I took it upon myself to research the job and learn all I could. I found a professor at the local college who had previously worked this job and asked if he would meet with me so I could figure out how to pursue this career. When he met with me he was very cordial, but informed me that I could forget about this career opportunity because I was white and couldn't speak any foreign languages fluently. The ones he recommended I learn were Farsi or Mandarin and Pinyin. By his estimation this was the only way I could set myself apart enough to even be considered due to my skin color.

That way it tells them it's good we are OK with it and then they step it up. Till one day your the one on the hook. So the short answer is follow the foolish edicts of politicians at your peril.

That may happen in some companies, but the majority of companies will hire the best qualified, regardless of race. What is likely to happen is that company HRs will require very detailed record keeping, to prove (with concrete evidence) that DEI was not a reason a specific person was hired or fired.

It wouldn't surprise me if a few entrepreneurs started Non-DEI monitoring companies to assist HRs.

There will be a few small companies that will be racist and won't hire certain people when they are qualified, but for the most part companies won't be pressured to hire a certain amount of minorities and will go back to hiring who they deem best qualified for the job.
