A tariff is only a problem for products from the countries that have tariffs imposed on them, not for prices in general. If one country’s products are more expensive in America, than another country’s products guess who gets cut out of the American market? Businesses look for the best deal globally, they don’t just pay higher prices or shits and giggles noob. It's a global competition. So if there is a 25% tariff on Mexico, clothing manufactures stop employing Mexicans to sew clothing, and start paying Indians or Pakistanis to sew clothing. In the event that they can’t find an alternate supplier, they disappear shipments into a warehouse in Panama for example under an LLC they’ve created. They then sell their ships to that LLC and anonymously request their ships to be flagged by Panama so that they can ship their products to the USA under Panama’s flag and dodge the Mexico tariff. That is until America takes over the Panama Canal and takes the shipping and flagging fees for themselves. Hahahaha! One way or another countries will be forced to bend to the will of the USA and they will hurt themselves by resisting. There will be winners and losers in the squabble. Those that work with America first will be the winners. Those that fight America will be the losers.

Asker1 ySorry, consumers end up holding the bag! Period...
- 1 y
Consumers only hold the bag for Mexico/Canada tariffs if they insist on purchasing products coming specifically from Mexico/Canada numbnuts. Who exactly do you think is loyal to Mexico or Canada? Nobody! Money talks and bullshit walks. If you don’t know that, you’re going to learn. If Mexico/Canada can’t compete against other world players in American markets because they rubbed America wrong by allowing human and drug trafficking across the border, then Mexico and Canada get cut out of the market and new players fill the power void. Nobody is going to sit around idly and wait for Mexico and Canada to resolve their problems with the USA. They are already pulling out their daggers and making arangements. One man’s loss is another man’s gain. Mexico and Canada will lose position and other countries will capture the market and increase their wealth.
Asker1 yI think you're missing a few countries on the list.
- 1 y
You're the one that focused on 25% tariffs not me. That's not a universal number for all countries. Those are numbers being applied specifically to Mexico and Canada to pressure them on drug and human trafficking. Different nations have different tariffs they have imposed on the USA, and thus the USA will impose reciprocal tariffs on those nations to even the playing field and create fair trade. It won't be 25% across the board.
- 1 y
So imports go up, export sales go down. That's what you're saying? That will not lower prices only FORCE consumers to pay MORE for LOCAL products that may be inferior than the imported ones as well as cost more. It also makes income from abroad lower as fewer exports will be sold AGAIN affecting your own economy more. The only winners are the rich fuckers ruling your government with their sponsorship of the Chump in Chief
- 1 y
If the product is totally irreplacable, then that makes American have to pay much more for it, because they keep buying it.
- 1 y
@behnam1999 Like I said, if you understand how ships are flagged, not exactly... Roughly 70% of ships on the seas are flagged anonymously. Panama is the biggest actor in that market. Products disappear into an intermediary warehouse, and come out the other end as a product of Panama. It's amazing how not a single one of your commies knows how to read.

On the other hand, you have maggots trying to spin the narrative and blame everyone other than their own stupidity and Trump, in the most ridiculous ways.

It will be just a huge push for inflation when local producers aren't capable to replace those Chinese products around with cheaper or better alternatives.
00 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. A lot of people are just too soft today so they think they should be able to have whatever they want without sacrifices. Trump is from the old school. He's been more broke than anybody else you know (owed hundreds of millions of dollars) and bounced back multiple times. The U. S. only became great because sacrifices were made. Now it's full of people who wouldn't even get a paper cut to save their neighbor. Will be interested to see how things pan out.

@JoMoe Canada unlike the USA is in full compliance with the deal Trump negotiated (USMCA). Trump lies. Maybe you need to get information from other sources. Now once USA launches tariffs against Canada there will be reciprocal Tariffs for sure. Thus a trade war. Everyone loses. But eventually the USA loses more since Europe, Asia/Pacific and Canada will diversify and reduce trade with the USA. The USA is no longer a reliable trading partner. American economic influence declines.

8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Funny thing is that tariffs during Trump's first term didn't cause higher prices. Know why? Because other countries don't want to lose market share in the US and weaken their currencies in response, something that is disinflationary.

Just an FYI... Trump negotiated the new NAFTA which he hailed as the best deal ever. Funny how the cult of MAGA seem to forget that.
- 1 y
@northerngal The NAFTA that sent the corporate world out of the United States was thought of before anyone heard of Trump! Then you throw in the EPA regulations.
The steel industry didn’t go to Canada nor Mexico. FYI! - 1 y
So why did Trump negotiate and turn it into the "Best deal ever"? Guess he is a terrible negotiator then and a liar lol
- 1 y
@northerngal I don’t know all of the particulars on Trump’s part one deal with Canada and Mexico. Nor do I know what our Great Leader of the last regime might have undone with a stroke of his pen.
But if you can honestly tell me without speculating. Please do! - 1 y
If you want cheaper products (US last I read was the worlds biggest consumer per head of just about everything) then you're not going to want to pay employees too much as a major cost to business is wages.
Also, if you want people to buy stuff then they need to have money to be able to buy it to consume it. If they aren't paid enough then they won't buy stuff and the economy will stall.
SO you need to pay your own citizens a decent wage that makes your business costs higher. Other countries don't have such high living costs so can afford to pay lower wages, and do things more efficiently thus making a better, cheaper product that your country will be keen to buy,

00 Reply 1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Hard to say, but not tariffs, it is impossible to convince people in this world that goods are scarce because our technology is limited and nature doesn't provide. No it always has to be because somebody else is hoarding all the goods.

Legalization of drugs is the only method of fighting overdose cases and organized crime that we know of. Everything else has failed categorically.
Also, dont bother trying to prevent importation of Fentanyl. I can't imagine something more pointless than that. Things like weed are things you grow and takes time and effort. Fentanyl can be made by anyone from legal ingredients. If, for the sake of argument, you somehow MAGICALLY (and it would have to be magical for this does not work either) manage to stop any import of Fentanyl or even the ingredients to produce Fentanyl into USA then that would just mean they produce it inside USA itself. It is such a simple to make drug that you can't realistically stop the production or distribution of it.
