Does your country offer guaranteed retirement for workers? If not, why?

I live on America and retirement is not guaranteed unless you work for the government. Most companies stopped offering retirement plans for their employees. Now the responsibility for retirement is offloaded onto the individual with predictable results. The majority of people that work in the private sector will never be able to retire. The average 60 year old in America has less than 10 thousand dollars saved for retirement. A lot of people think that they will live on Social Security. The average person gats about $2,000 a month for benefits. Try living on that.

I was in the minority of people that actually saved for retirement. I opened an IRA account when I was 25 , the year I got married. My wife and i always put the maximum in our accounts. 30 years later it has grown into a decent amount of money. I also worked for the state so I receive a decent pension and get most of my health insurance paid. I teach part time and make some extra money doing that.

We skipped a lot of fancy vacations and we drove our cars for 200K miles. We sent our kids to local colleges and they commuted. I do most home maintenance myself.
