When was the last decent era in American history?

I believe the pre-Obama era, up until around 2007 was a decent time. Some may say earlier times were even better, and I cannot say I disagree, but I believe these were the last times when people were more down to earth, less absorbed in the Politically Correct (PC) culture (which ran rampant during the Obama years), and were more motivated and optimistic for success.

It could have been because I was still wearing rose colored glasses and I was still rather naive and a kid, considering these years were my elementary school and preteen years. My adolescent years were rough and plagued with severe mental illness. My adulthood years introduced nightmarish situations of their own.

My favorite childhood year was 2004. My parents were more financially sound, I had my best friend at the time named Nick, and the cartoons were good. I could balance technology and playing outside. Kids still went trick or treating and played outside. I rode my bike around and played on my GameCube. I enjoyed my Crash Bandicoot Wrath of the Cortex and Zelda windwaker. My imagination ran wild and I could enjoy the simpler things, even just playing in the backyard and building "ponds" and trenches.

Today, everyone is buried in their phones. People are harsh, tempermental, greedy, tired, lonely, and antisocial. Everyone is beaten down with politics, inflation, and financial burden. People seem to lack empathy and compassion. Corporate greed is insane. People don't take pride in their work. It is sad what we have become.

In my opinion, the 1930's - early 1980's was the golden age in the USA. The New Deal of the 1920's set the stage for the creation and growth of a middle class that became the envy of the world. Post WWII industry and technology growth provided tens of millions of middle class jobs that fueled economic growth the likes of which the world has never seen before or since. Millions were lifted out of poverty.

But once Reagan started working for billionaires in the 1980's, he set the stage for a 40 year war on the middle class and poor that saw the largest wealth transfer in history to the 1%. And that sad situation continues today with a government that has been completely bought by "dark money". The Legislative branch, House and Senate, the Executive branch, Presidency, and the courts all the way up to the Supreme Court have been stacked with corrupt partisan judges who openly take bribes from billionaires. The middle class has been in decline for 40 years.

And now, thanks to an angry rabble with no intelligence but a lot hate, we have a fascist cult trying to destroy their country and government out of spite because they are too stupid to understand who is really responsible for their misery, the billionaires who own the government.

2007 - 2008 was the global financial crisis all driven by USA property and producing the great film " The big Short " , I think many people around the world suffered during this time , your memories may be lovely but the USA was in crisis , amd you even bought Iceland to near bankruptcy.

As usual the " free market USA " was driven by greed and easy money and it was always going to crash , listed REITs in Australia , are still well below the price of 2007 , and we had no property crash.

Not a good time for many , all on the brink.

Last week was good. So I think people should not live in the past. If it was 1776 then I would stop churning milk and go fight the Brits. But its not, it's 2025. So look to the future.

After Obama and before Biden. Even though we had a pandemic, the price of gas was less than 2 bucks a gallon and a shopping cart full of food was less than a hundred bucks. The stock market was reaching a new record just about every day. The streets were safe and taxes were not as high as they are today. It just seemed like a different era.
