Do Democrats still support defunding the police?

It was a big topic in 2018-2020, but I can't help but feel that this slogan has been absent in 2024 election campaign. Is it dead already?

While fact cops harassing minor infractions of minority people dosen't keep and society safer. So defending the police is shocking safer for people and even cops in a country that has more guns then people go fucking figure.

While "defund the police" was the headliner, the main objective was to lower police stops which was overwhelming bias one way or another to even start the police stop.

I'm going to be slightly optimistic and say the movment was largely successful. Police state isn't good for any community and maybe focus what ever resources to more pointed matter and not some random dumb fuck.

They never had that policy request as part of a federal platform. And what was meant by it, was to stop the ever increasing militarization of police (they receive written-off military equipment) and instead put more money in deescalation training, etc. Right wing pundits of course try to completely distort the picture with their lies.

I am 100% behind the idea of defunding the police. Why? Because they are abusing their power and not doing their jobs. I remember one time when the New York police department went on strike to protest the Mayors actions against them and once they stopped enforcing the law the criminality fucking dropped as a stone.

Literally no police is better than THIS police.

@CandyRattt Because most of them wanted to re-allocate funding and duties away from the police and to social workers because the police should not be doing those kinds of jobs anyways.

I am different though. I believe the entire organization of the police force is corrupted beyond the point where its worth saving so it should be dismantled and replaced with another law enforcement organization.

Police need FAR better training, especially in defusing non-fatal interactions with citizens, and of course, MUCH BETTER SALARIES, NOT DEFUNDING. Who'd catch the criminals, though 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. has the world's most important thug befouling it !!!

not really, most cities quietly refunded there police department a year later because it wasn't working or crime was spreading into the city councils neighborhoods. Minneapolis defund there in 2020 by $24 mil, then gave them $27 mil more in 2021 when crime was out of hand. still is.
