How do you feel about relaxing regulations on nuclear and building a reactor near your home?

That's more probable now than ever, likely a small nuclear reactor. I have an old reactor not far from my house... my #1 desire is make sure that sucker is 100% solid! USA hasn't built a reactor in a long time and it's likely, we will build more to power all this stuff we think we need, smaller and with less regulation.

Have to admit, I'm a bit nervous thinking wed cut regulations on reactors and they are for profit.

How long til we have a nuclear event of some sort? It be guaranteed within 100 years.

Nearly every nuke plant on Earth is a 1950s design that was built in the 1960s or early 70s. They're all beyond obsolete from a design perspective. Modern designs are many generations improved, create FAR less waste, and are much safer. We should have been installing these for the last 30 years, but due to government corruption and mismanagement, as well as regulations that went way too far, we've been using fossil fuels instead. That just doesn't make sense.

We need new nuke plants and to shut down the old, obsolete ones. That's not something that happens overnight, but it needs to start.

I think the half life on uranium is around 40,000 years thats how long it would take for the. urainium to decay and no longer be a threat problem I see is a lot of counties been dealing with. drought in one way or another and those fuel rods cannot be. exposed to air if your currious to what that might be like on a super smaller scale take. a lithium battery and open it up and expose the. lithium. to air and depending on how humid it is it will burst into a fireball brighter than the sun and. you cannot put it out it has to burn out and then think about that before you wrap a electric vehicle around a pole because thats the kind of fire you can't even watch and water would only make things worse

There is not an energy crisis in the USA. I live near 3 large Nuclear and 6 hydro plants. Human caused global warming is a scam but post WW2 nuclear fear regulations must be adapted to modern Micro technology. There is a perfect location 5 miles from my house to build a Micro, if we need one. Micros are the wave of the future and we should gradually build hundreds nation-wide, as GAS depletes.

I live not far from a nuclear station in South Africa. One of my friends worked at Sellafield in England.

If the world isn't about to have a major war then they're more environmentally friendly than renewable plants that need lithium or cadmium.

For most of my life I lived roughly half way between Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station and St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant. I never had an issue with it. Air quality is far better in Florida than in many populated states. Electricity prices while not the cheapest in the nation were more affordable than many places. Environmentally there was never a problem I'm aware of and the manatees like the hot water. I wouldn't want to live right next to one, but 50 miles away or whatever isn't a concern in my mind.

I had a nuke about 20 miles from my house. It has been decommissioned but it was on line for about 50 years. The only problem was that when you went fishing near the water outflow pipe you might catch a fish with two heads.

I'm already on a nuclear grid. It's the only thing that makes sense. Burning coal is destroying the planet, and solar and wind does not provide enough power to run a real modern household much less a walmart in the neighborhood.

Since coal power plants will destroy the world with their emissions. Windmills will kill the little migratory birdies. Plus they freeze up in the winter and only work when the wind blows! Hydro dams won’t allow fish to swim upstream. I know. They have fish ladders! Nuclear gives everyone cancer. If it melts down. Everyone will die anyway. Solar only works when the sun shines. What is left?

That comes from the false assumption that all regulations are equal and all regulations actually make you safer. We know that's not the case. There would have to be justification to keep the regulation.

yes true, depends on the reg. but such issues in the banking world resulted in destruction and it is not rocket science to understand human behavior in those cases.

I live about 25 km. (roughly 15 miles) from Michigan's Enrico Fermi Nuclear Reactor, which nearly had a Three Mile Island-calibre meltdown in 1966.
