I worked at a nuclear power plant for 6 months. It was a facility where they assembled the atomic bomb in the 40's.
I was subcontracted to work there from the company I was working for.
It was very scary for me to work there. 😳 Everyone had to wear a dosometer on a plastic chain and wear them around our necks.
They would periodically check it with a machine to see how much radiation we were exposed to while working there.
After I left there I heard they were shipping plutonium in trucks 🚚 during the night hours. They were storing it there.
I was sure glad when the job was done and I didn't have to go there anymore.

Nuclear fuel is a nonrenewable resource so it's not going to last forever (although the waste radioactivity will for the most part). So, not even thinking about safety, nuclear power plants are something of a waste of time. We say in the energy industy "Nuclear energy: The most expensive way to boil water." That's because all they do is have their radioactivity heat up water turning it into steam which is piped into turbine blades causing them to turn and make electricity. Generally, that's how we make electricity for the most part: spin blades causing magnets to rotate and make electricity. Coal power plants do the same thing: burn coal which heats up water turning it into steam which is piped into turbine blades causing them to turn and make electricity.

That said, nuclear power is green from a global warming perspective since no greenhouse gases are emitted. Thus, to help with global warming, they are a decent alternative.

by the way, I have a BS in physics for 40 years. I've worked in the power industry and fully understand how nuclear power plants operate.

With the reported incredible need for AI to need electricity. The generation of electricity is going to be number one on anyone’s plate. But since hydropower doesn’t let little fishies swim upstream. Wind power isn’t reliable and might chop up migrating birds. Or destroy some creatures habitat to put the base on the ground. Solar just doesn’t provide enough. Plus there is a self life on the panels. That pretty much only leaves nuclear or fossil fuels. Having lived through TMI. I guess we need to hope that the next time. The operators need to go for coffee and let the controls alone!

We do not have enough of them. And new technology is allowing us to build many plants that will be sufficient for just one big factory, like an auto assembly plant. Part of the opposition to nuclear power plants came from people that do not want progress. Those same people also restrict fossil fuels and even heating one's home and cooking with wood. Because of alleged CO2 pollution. The fact is that the globalists want to reduce world population by maybe 50% so the remaining people are easier to control.

Nuclear power is a valid energy source with a good history. When designed, operated and maintained properly, nuclear power is a good source of energy. It doesn't pollute, is reliable, and safe.

Yes, there have been a few nuclear power incidents, but overall, the industry has a very good safety record.

Nuclear power is a safe and efficient way to generate electricity. however , when the owners start cutting corners to save money they can be dangerous.
There was a nuke near where i live. They were shut down by the NRC and I had then for a customer. Everything about nukes that you saw Homer Simpson do is pretty much true.

Yes I agree that we must have them, cause # 1 we are in the middle of a population explosion with new families buying new homes all the time. # 2 And almost every summer we are settling new records at his at record temperatures forcing all our power plants and every way of providing electricity we have to the limits and beyond. # 3 We must find and explore every new way of producing as much energy as possible in the coming years.

Good alternative to power plants fueled by fossil fuels. I'm a supporter of green, renewable energy, but we are farm it being a drop in replacement for fossil fuels, so nuclear energy is a good compromise between fossil fuels and green, renewable energy. Nuclear energy is quite clean and efficient when used and disposed of properly.

Nuclear power plants have a bad rap, but new technology and smaller plants are much safer, even than coal or hydro (by actual number of deaths, for example from a mine or dam collapse). We will not achieve significant emissions reductions without small modular reactors

You are so far from doing fine that it's unbelievable that you could be German and think that. I can only guess that you are getting all your news from an anti-nuclear bubble.

Energy prices have made much of German industry uncompetitive on the global market and have nearly bankrupted millions of Germans. It also enabled Russia to attack Ukraine and sustain that war.

I'm not against wind and solar, but both have significant limitations. Without nuclear, any country MUST rely on either coal or gas. Germany is now doing both, creating FAR more pollution than before with nuke power, and at a much higher cost.

There are far better nuke plant designs today than the 1960s designs that power so much of the world, so arguing that plants needed to be updated is valid, but shutting down Germany's nukes has done incredible harm to the country. It's helped crash the birthrate. It's vastly increased pollution, and it has massively affected German independence.
