The idea of Canada joining the European Union to “protect itself against Trump” is absurd. Canada is not a European country, making it completely ineligible for EU membership under its own Copenhagen Criteria—which require members to be geographically European or have deep cultural and political ties to Europe (which Canada does not).

If this is about trade, Canada already has CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) with the EU, which gives it extensive trade benefits without needing to join. If it’s about politics, Canada is a sovereign nation—it has no reason to abandon its independence just because one U. S. president doesn’t align with certain views.

This poll is just another example of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)—a reactionary, emotional take that ignores basic facts. If Canada truly felt “threatened,” it would focus on strengthening its own economy and security, not fantasizing about an impossible EU membership.

In case you have not been reading or you can't read, Trump has repeatedly threatened military action against Canada. How do you expect them to react?

Joining the European Union is a relatively mild response.

It’s not a bad idea. They already have a free trade agreement, which the EU hasn’t broken yet… Doubt they’re lamenting better, cheaper and more European wines in place of Californian ones. Not to mention Scotch and their own whiskies

There's a widespread belief in Ukraine that America is supplying Russia with intelligence. Recent advances would have been impossible without it. If this is true then it's clear where Trumps loyalties lie and it would be in Europe's interest to build both trade and military relations with Canada

I live in Alberta and there is no way Alberta or Saskatchewan would join the US. There's a minority of racists that would but we love being Canadian. Our problems are minor compared to daily mass shootings and race riots
