President Trump to sign an executive order to wind down Department of Education. Thoughts?

President Donald Trump is expected to sign a long-awaited directive Thursday to officially wind down the Education Department, following weeks of steadily winnowing the agency’s staff and spending.

Trump’s pending executive order directs Education Secretary Linda McMahon to “take all necessary steps to facilitate” her department’s closure “and return education authority to the States,” according to a summary obtained by POLITICO. The upcoming order will also tell McMahon to ensure the department continues to deliver its services, programs, and benefits.

The order will also direct that programs or activities receiving any remaining Education Department funds will not advance diversity, equity and inclusion, or “gender ideology,” according to the White House.

The order does not dismantle Department of Education, as it would require 60 votes in the Senate to pass.

Awesome, that was a waste of over 600 million a year, all money that went no further than people's pockets, not to any schools.
First you close it down, so when you rebuild it, all of the mistakes of the past can be corrected.
College is not an end all.
Look at all of the people that are in massive debt for their degree in dried grass weaving that cannot find a job.
Get into the trades, you get paid to learn, no debt and many of them you can make 6 figures a year.
Nothing wrong with hard work.

The Federal DOE was created by Jimmy Carter in the 70s. It had become just a front for the teachers union. Test scores of American students have fallen ever since. The US scores at or near the bottom of 40 industrialized nations yet has the highest by far per pupil expenditure of any of these countries.
President Trump is correct to be going in a different direction.

Without Federal pressure, perhaps students will now learn the truth, rather than propaganda. For example, we don't acknowledge in the South that a "Civil War" ever took place. It's insulting to the South to insinuate that we were not our own country. Also, we did not lose the war, we shot the president and took over the Federal government. Anyone who want to learn the truth about American history should go to school in the South.

Considering I think the education system is deeply flawed I don't see this as a bad thing. Replace it with something that actually educates people instead of indoctrinatinig them and punishing them for things they are bad at.
