Why is Trump so friendly to Russia, but so harsh on other countries who have been America's allies for years?

Well two things, one this narrative that one country is the enemy really has to stop. Both post ww2 and post cold war USA has had the chance to make Russia a friend after Russia humbled itself. For the world, that would have been better. For one the Ukraine - Russia war would have never happened. Rather than Ukraine being a buffer vs Russia, Russia would have been a buffer vs China.

That out of the way? Trump has been 'friendly', some would say dependent on and puppeted by, Russia since he was young. He is no longer young. Bootlicking Russia is a core part of his personality by now. They ensured he did not go broke and, whether it was decisive or not, ran significant election interference to get him elected the first time.

The not so silent rumour he is a KGB asset for the last 40 years is not without any reason, even if it also is not proven. But sometimes if someone looks, talks and acts like a chicken they are a chicken. In fact, most of the time things are as they appear.
