I agree to a point. Yes things happen in life like car accidents. Someone could die. There’s things beyond our control. But for a majority of your life I believe everyone can live the life they want to if they’re willing to put in the work. When I was younger I had 2 DUIs, crashed both times. I drank a lot, got in trouble, etc. It was only until I stopped thinking like I was the victim in everything did things change. My life has changed tremendously. There’s people who have had it worse in life that have changed their life around, who are now rich. So yes I do believe you live the life you choose w the exception of sicknesses, accidents. Especially in todays age of the internet. There’s no reason someone shouldn’t be able to make money. Once I stopped worrying about money it seemed to come much more easier. I do believe optimism and having a positive outlook does put money in your bank because if you go out w that mentality in trying to make more, you certainly will. I sell things online. I made $1000 on the last 5 days. I also sell things in person. So yes I have to be optimistic. If I’m always thinking negative I’m going to get negative results. Even if things don’t work out the way I wanted it too, I look at it as what did I learn. The problem is too many people blame theirs issues on others. Like someone said national leaders. Some people right now don’t like the president of the US, but rather then do something about it they will just complain. They need to look at ok where is this president going. Where do I need to insert myself so that I as well as my family can prosper. Then 4 years later it’ll change to someone new, then you adjust. A lot of Africans come here, they dominate in education. A lot of them become doctors, nurses, etc. But the very people, not all, who live here in the US will still complain how they’re oppressed.

Yes and no. Ok, so let's take the situation of having no girlfriend. Technically, I COULD probably find someone (even then, I'm not sure) that I could find someone who would be cool with saying she's my girlfriend. But, it'd be really unhealthy. I COULD have a girlfriend... MAYBE... but it'd be someone who treats me like crap (and I'm probably not attracted to her), just because I'd have to be THAT desperate for affection that I'd take "bottom of the barrel" type girls. It's not a good flex to say "I have a girlfriend." or "I've been married 15 years" but she treats you like a roommate she hates (and maybe she's cheating, too), and she constantly treats you badly. That's not a successful relationship. So, if it's being single and breathing a little easier in that I don't have someone I have to tiptoe around, or who I'm terrified to upset or say no to... or someone who refuses to apologize when she's VERY wrong. I'd choose singleness over that. However, I'm not happy that my only chances are negative or... more negative. That's not REALLY much of a choice.

I think it's better to say you live the cards you're dealt and you have to play them the best way you can. There is a lot out of our control in this world. We can't control what social class we are going to end up in but we can make moves to get out of the social class and move up. Only then can you have more choices to do as you please. So to answer the question, I somewhat agree but somewhat disagree based on the fact that we have many things in life out of our control.

You get to choose what to do regarding the realities/circumstances life sends you hit. You did get to choose when you were born, the technologies available, the town and house you were born into, the school you went to, who you lived near, your own health, or any or such things. You can choose many paths in those circumstances but not the circumstances in many cases.

@Jersey2 Right, and that's why the statement "you are living the life you choose" is not 100% true. But there are many choices presented to us and we are not entirely the victims of our circumstances.

for the most part, most of the time... most people... might have some room to decide on many things, yes... but not everything no... sometimes life just happens to you, and in ways you never expected nor wanted in the first place

    definitely a grey area...

No, I disagree. Optimism and a positive outlook don't put money in your pocket, find you a good job or enough money to buy a home. Positive thinking is great, but it genuinely means jack shit and the rest is up to luck. The world is full of people who had dreams and ambitions that never have and never will come true and plenty of people give every single thing they have and still fail over and over. Life is random, unfair uncaring and unpredictable. You attituded does nothing to change the factors outside of your control and 90% of the time that's what gets in the way.

    not really

I'm pretty sure the 10 year old boy living in war-torn Gaza didn't agree to live that life

plenty of aspiring athletes are looking to be the next Tom Brady or LeBron James only to end up in a job nowhere close to such success

career women know wanting to be mothers in their older years ending up childless

men born with physical deformities or a poor family reputation through no fault of their own ending up lonely and suicidal

I wish to go on adventures through space to other planets, other dimensions, exploring worlds, fighting monsters but that's never gonna happen

Eh... I personally live the life I want to, but I don't get the impression that very many people get to do that.

My life circumstance is the result of years of extremely intentional choices to maximize freedom and opportunity. I wouldn't be in my position if I hadn't made such a strong point of living on my own terms.

Yes in a sense. The choices we all face are way different. The choices of someone born in the Hamptons will be far better options than someone born in the projects of Chicago. We all are the sum of the choices we make but damn, environment really makes a difference.

No. You are put into the world at no choice of your own and have to simply deal with it. Not to mention you are constantly at the mercy of the decisions of other people such as national leaders and corporations.
