For civil offenses you are usually fined, or in this case, removed to your home country. You aren't sent to prison. And civil offenses do not usually affect anyone but yourself.

If i'm given a ticket for speeding, running a stop sign or a red light, as long as I don't hit anyone, I have broken civil law, breaking a RULE. My breaking of that rule ONLY affects me. I am fined or given a ticket. My auto insurance rates my go up. Again. Only affects me.

If I'm deported, I suffer. My entering the country illegally only personally harms me. It doesn't impinge on anyone else's life, liberty, pursuit of happiness.

However, there are some civil offenses that according to degree can morph into criminal offenses. If I'm speeding over 100 mph, that moves into another category because of degree.

MOST people here illegally are people who flew in, which is the way most illegals have entered the country and overstayed vacations or visitations of others they knew, or simply decided to stay permanently with no legal documentation.

There is a difference between entering illegally and overstaying. Illegal entry, i. e. croasing the border illegally, is a felony.

And it does seem that the United States doesn't intend to put illegal entry aliens in prison, as that means we'll have to support them. What good what that do? Means they're still here on our dime. That's nuts to spend tax dollars on punishment.

I'd suspect that deportation would be enough. Though, the guy who attacked that person on the New York subway was a three-time re-entry illegal alien. (I could be off. He had re-entered at least twice.)

@exitseven There is a difference between a CRIME and an OFFENSE. Offenses only affect those who commit them. Crimes are enacted AGAINST PEOPLE. Offenses, against CIVIL CODE. As in my expired parking meter.

Offenses are usually due to INACTION on the part of the person. I didn't refill my meter. I didn't show up for my court date.

But, Exit, there are not enough police to enforce all these laws. It's simply impossible. There needs to be some other way to approach this: better solutions. I can't think of it off the top of my head.

You are incorrect Pacifico. I'm not talking about labels. Or about shielding anyone who has committed a heinous crime. You are talking about an infinitesimal minority of illegal aliens in this country, like that crazy man who's re-entered the country at least twice and killed a woman on the subway.

But these people, just as they are in our native society, are minorities of minorities. There is no giant monolith of criminal illegal aliens getting into America. It's a myth. Our murderers and child molesters are home grown, and also less than 10 percent of the people in this country.

Our criminals, of ALL ilks are five to 10 percent of our population. This appears to be the general percentage of criminals in the world. A very small percentage of people commit ALL the crimes and are repeat offenders. Mexicans, Central Americans, South Americans, Canadian, Europeans, Russians and Chinese do not have the market cornered on criminal types at home or invading America.
