I mean... Both the Book of Genesis and science support this claim, just in different ways. The primordial soup that life is believed to have first appeared in was basically kind of murky water. Not exactly dirt, but close enough. Kind of like... wet dirt, I guess. Now then, that's about life in general. As for human beings... We are still being created from dirt, given that dirt is where the nutrition for women who give birth to humans basically comes from. Whether it is plant- or animal-based nutrition, everything starts with the dirt being the supply of nutrients for plants, which can then be eaten by farm animals or directly by humans. It is... indirect, but in essence, we are created from dirt.

The Book of Genesis is a bit more poetic about it, enabling the concept of our bodies (our souls are a whole different matter, they are being directly created by God Almighty) being created from dust and turning into dust (which is actually perfectly correct scientifically), stressing the fragility of our lives and the importance of the cycle of life (which is also pretty scientific, if You think about it).

Oh, and in a metaphorical sense... Yeah, our souls might be made in God Almighty's image (You know, with the power of creativity and the like), but our bodies are sure created from dirt and really eager to prove it. I mean, Saint Paul's dychotomy of the spirit (or the soul) being made by God and therefore naturally just and noble, while the body is a part of this world and therefore inherently sinful, actually holds water. It is when people strive for the self-preservation or the pleasure for their bodies that they are the most cruel and animalistic, while it is when people are using their power of creativity that they are capable of attaining beauty, truth and rightousness (though if they are swayed by the body - or the world - while using this power, their desires might bring them down to sin). Basically, whenever we go against the wishes of our bodies, we are becoming more noble. While self-preservation is not necessarily sinful in and of itself, it tends to awaken the monstrous if not demonic side of the human nature and in best case, it's just neutral. Now... In the German concentration camps and death camps, it was clearly when people went against their survival instinct that they became truly noble beacons of hope, just like it happened with Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe.

Many religions have similar themes, not just Islam. For example, the book of Genesis in the JudeoChristian Bible says “The Lord God formed a man from the dust of the earth... For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

It’s a roundabout way to acknowledge the reality. Yes, we have the mythologies of humans being made from clay. The reality is “humans” did come from under the ground because our evolutionary ancestors, before the chimps, and before whatever became chimps, we were rodents that lived in dirt, the creatures that managed to survive the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.

Look, it was a pretty good take from someone around 3,400 and 1,900 years ago. I like the Bible, but I'm not going to take everything as fucking literal. But the adult in me knows about the recent experiments where they actually created basic RNA out of substances and conditions that used to be on this planet. It will probably be another 5 to 10 years before they figure out how to create cellular life from scratch that even has it's own DNA.

No. the Theory of Evolution says that all animals have a common ancestor, millions of years ago, most likely single-celled creatures who lived in the ocean. There's no agreement on how those creatures appeared in the oceans though. Over millennia, those creatures became more complex and eventually ventured onto the land, where further development and diversity took place.
