Nevermind just convenience lets say I want to buy a new laptop. I can go to the mall and try laptops. When I find a laptop I like and want to buy i'd leave the mall to "think about it" order it online and have it delivered even if its from the same company but probably a place cheaper. Why? Because in dutch law there is a mandatory 14 day return window, but only if you order online. So if in the mall the laptop seemed nice, but in my own house the wifi sucks, the display is worse than it seemed now I can play games on it, the keyboard ends up having obscure issues, etc (All this happened to me on a laptop that seemed good at first sight) then i'd be screwed. But if this happened to me with the online laptop I can just send it back and get my money back and properly test it on my terms.
So why would I go to a mall to buy a laptop with a sales rep over my shoulder in a way I can't possibly test it properly if I can also have the laptop delivered for 2 weeks of proper testing on my terms?

1 yOnline shopping rules!
Brick and mortar stores have additional overhead costs that online stores do not have, which increases their prices over online stores. Plus, it's much easier for people to go online, do searches for what they want to buy at the cheapest price, order it, and have it delivered directly to them, rather than go to a store in a mall... all at a cheaper price than they could find at a mall store.

Of course drugstores, pharmacies and other stores who are limited with sending their product online prosper as well. I mean if I want to buy a eyeliner pen for $1,20 in don't order it by Amazon with $5 delivery fee. Fast food restaurants of all kind start to be most visited place in malls.

Anonymous(30-35)1 yThey’re still very much alive in Asia! We have these crazy huge grand malls like every 10 blocks lol. Online shopping is great but people here still go to the malls to eat. So most malls nowadays are just a glorified food court with fancy or hipster restaurants.

Hopefully the Malls are not dying, because shopping is a way of meeting and building relationships with people.
Unfortunately with me I've been busy with jobs and life in general. Shops are more expensive, but they give the personal touch, and if at all possible I keep away from the Internet.

1 yUmmmm... malls are annoying as hell. I haven't been in a mall in more than 15 years. Drive time, traffic, parking, crowds, limited selection, high priced real estate driving higher prices. There's this thing called the internet that pretty much eliminates all of that. Have it delivered to your doorstep in 48 hours. Free returns. Millions of sellers from all over the planet. Lower prices.
00 Reply 1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Online shopping and people having no money to buy shit they don't need. Now it's cheaper as shops and staff don't need to be paid so robots and warehouse employees in dark buildings can get the stuff from shelves for less than someone cleaning and sustaining a in a mall-

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yThey were mauled by online purchasing, amazon specifically. Easy free returns made that possible. If the lack of competition removed free returns, be diff story.
It feels better to stay at home than go out and look around. It's only for those that like to explore in person.

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yIn the 90's it was big box stores like Walmart. That was followed in the new millennium by the rise of Amazon. It used to be a social gathering spot for youths but even that has largely changed. This is just a process that has repeated itself through American history. Out with the old, in with the new.

I love walking around malls, though. Rarely buy stuff online.10 Reply
