Issue is as what social class would you be in? Working class would have been pretty grim in both but upper class would have been pretty good either way. Health care of course in the modern era would make life better.
Out of these options, 1950s America at least had some sense of similarity
Definitely 1950s America. You would've had to be something great in class to survive the other era for a long time.
Edo Japan. There were no poodle skirts or dumb songs about splishing-and-a-splashing or Rub-a-dubbing in the tub.

I kind of like having vaccines and antibiotics. Call me crazy if you will.
They had magic medicine and homemade remedies in Edo Japan. Like how ancient Indians believed that smearing cow poo on your face would cure all diseases and make you look young forever.
And Indoor plumbing. I'm a big fan!!
Wait. I need more info. Early edo? Am I a Shogun? Daiymo? Am I in Tokyo or Nagasaki with those filthy Dutch? Am I a prominent family? Samurai?
Interesting. So I passed the imperial exams at least. High status. Comfy life. I'll go with Edo but I prefer Heian Japan.
If you haven't read "The Tale of Genji" you have no clue what real mommy porn lit is!! 50 shades? Puh-lease...
Let me see. We didn't live in 1603-1868 Japan, and our lives were h**l in 1950's Jim Crow America. Arsenic or strynine for us POC.
Edo would have its advantages, but I think that I will go with the 50s as it is almost space travel time.
Obviously from a scientific pov the closest to today.
So Edo Japan?
50s rock n roll, hot rods.. yep sounds great
And if you're not a white suburbanite?
The 50s were great. The birth of Rock and Roll.
There's a lot missing there
@DrPepper12 I used to watch Happy Days.
I'm partial to the 1970s.
