Why are the French against multiculturalism?

Because they are French.. and not only French but they are AGGRESSIVELY French.

There is no real simple way of putting this. France is culturally and historically in a weird place right now. They used to be one of the most nationalistic and quite frankly, racist countries in the world. Then two world wars happened and that drastically altered their culture going forward as well as the success of the EU. Today France is in a sort of transition phase between that incredibly aggressive nationalistic origin and a more friendly and open modern society.

It will probably take decades if not centuries for the new French culture to stabilize into something that you might consider as "ideologically consistent" and "stable".

I hope so. Because it makes the French unpleasant. It's a shame because there's a lot I could love about their culture.
