In hindsight, were all of the oppressive measures to slow the curb of covid five years ago really worth it?

Five years ago at this time, we were told to stay home. Don't visit friends and family. Don't protest. Yes, the economy will be devastated. Education will be greatly harmed. But it will save lives. In hindsight, was it all worth it?

Yes, it was worth it. Saving lives is everything.

Yes. Even if we failed to stop covid19, which is entirely our own fault by the way because we did not try hard enough, we did actually eradicate a lot of other diseases.

To put it very simply, those "oppressive measures" were designed to lower the R value of the disease. Covid19 is one of if not the most easily spread disease in human history so lowering its R value is also the hardest. So while we failed to completely lower the R value of Covid19, and thereby kill it, we did succeed in lowering the R value of every other disease at the same time. For instance, we completely bodied most of the diseases responsible for the common cold.

So yeah, while we fell short of completely dealing with covid19 we did make the world objectively a better place. Totally worth it. We should make this a regular thing if you ask me.

What do you meany by a regular thing? Like every few years we should tell everyone not to leave their homes?

We already have regular social traditions like fasting or whatever. Having everyone isolate themselves for 1 week every 5 or 10 years would have an incredible improvement to human health. Furthermore, considering the mental health issues people has which is often related to stress then spending a week with your family is hardly the worst punishment for most people.

So in your opinion, should everyone in the world isolate themselves at the same time for one week every 5-10 years? Kind of like an inverse purge haha.

Yes. That would be an extremely simple method that requires basically no assistance from technology nor the government. It is something that everyone from the rich to the poor can participate in and in the event where people need assistance its not even that big of an issue since you can have social workers isolate with you if you really need help.

If everyone, and I do mean everyone did this, then we might actually be able to eradicate 95% of all human diseases. No miracle medicine required. No problems with geographically containing outbreaks so you need to vaccinate yourself to visit certain countries. Nothing but a weeks worth of your time every 5 or 10 years so that humans all over the world can live happier and healthier lives.

In the early days of the Covid pandemic, we weren't sure how it could be spread, particularly whether it could be passed mouth to surface to hand to mouth, or how long it persisted indoors. We knew that nearly an entire church choir had been infected, and many died, so we reacted with an overabundance of caution. Later we learned that it is passed mouth to nose -- exhalations of an infected person being inhaled by another.

In hindsight, it's clear that we over-reacted, and should have relaxed the restrictions after the vaccines became available. Who knew?

I saw a woman last night STILL wearing a mask while on the street!! I thought it was doubly funny that she's a SMOKER!!
