Why are nerds seen as losers?

Why do people think that nerds are losers. Nerds are judt people who are passionate about something, so what is the problem? Why are people always kudgy towards nerds? Are they jealous because they are intimidated by their knowledge on a specific topic. Or are they just mean people?

And why are nerd always seen as people who don't take care of their appearance? They are just seen as ugly, not trendy, and with hideous clothes and glasses. That looks stupid. (Look at the picture).

Nerd suggests someone with a peculiar high intelligence. The “passion” for things may or may not be present.
Geeks, on the other hand, have great passion and may or may not have a peculiar knowledge of the object of their enthusiasm.
Dorks are just socially awkward.
A person can be any one of those things, any two, or all three.


The subject of knowledge and excitement is a factor. Football nerds are quite common and tend to be very popular. Bug nerds, not so much.
Let’s face it, most people geek out about something. When girls geek out over pop stars, nobody bats an eye. But if they get terribly excited about US Civil War reenactments, it’s strange.
I think a lot of people hide their enthusiasms for fear of not being accepted. It’s kind of sad. The things we love most should bring us together, not keep us apart.

It's quite an old-fashioned description for nerds you're digging from the grave, so if you think that people think that nerds are losers... Then I'd think you must live in specific surroundings that are old-fashioned.

it's not nerds as a whole that are seen as losers, it's the ones that fit the stereotype (the stereotype is made up of a lot of things that do make people have a lower status). like for ex a dude is sociable, kinda popular and well liked, has drip, parties, has a girlfriend, but at the same time is highly intelligent, high achieving, likes science and higher subjects, wears glasses, and likes books, do you think he'd be seen as a loser?

Nerds tend to be different, hard to relate to, and don't seem to follow popular opinion or social conventions. They usually only ever talk of things they know (computers) and won't pick up easily on social cues. The way they dress, speak, behave, etc. is different than what most American highchoolers are comfortable with. Geeks usually have an easier time in America than Nerds when young.

I feel like there's two different definitions

1) The dictionary definition that you provided is when people say "I'm a [subject] nerd!"

2) The archetype of a loser is when people don't have social influence or strong body, so they triple down on intellect as a form of control over their environment.

Intellect also results in book smarts rather than street smarts, which most likely makes nerds have no leverage in the real world, putting them at the bottom of social status.

They have a higher IQ they get board with the mundane crap that most people like. Most guys are physical, they want strength and good looks so they can impress women. Nerds think way beyond all that they'd be bored stiff. They read books, they know about history, philosophy. They are the wizards of old, scientists and inventors routinely change the course of history it's just that no one knows or remembers because what they did is locked away in books somewhere. It's not interesting like scoring a touch down In short they just aren't relatable to guys who only remember sports scores or fancy cars or think about some girl they want. Some people call others losers if they can't understand them because they're different than most people, most of them are not very social or people just nerds so they put them down instead. I think nerds can be quite impressive but also adorable at times.

But the biggest and the most pathetic loser I have met in my life is a jealous 'nerd' who was extremely manipulative and passive aggressive.

He had a weird quirky personality that most people would think he would get bullied for, yet he was the instigator in many instances and operated like a sociopath. Meanwhile, he was obsessed with being perceived as really smart and intelligent and always kept up with keeping an image of gentle, kind, intelligent, and humble. The mask came right off if he got jealous of you however.

There's nothing wrong with being intellectual. It can actually be attractive.

Nerdy girls can be cute and some can be little nymphos when unleashed in private.

But nerdy guys don't come off as very manly. You picture them with taped glasses and acne. They aren't athletic. They are socially awkward and maybe kind of boring. A girl doesn't imagine being ravished hard by a nerd.

So called "nerds" (they don't use that term outside the USA) tend to be socially awkward, but trustworthy. Hence why they get targeted by untrustworthy and socialite types.
