Marijuana is a softdrugs to me... Heroïne and crack cocaïne are hard drugs. You cannot put marijuana in the same categorie as the ones who destroy lifes.
That being said... Addiction to marijuana is definitely a real thing but the consequences of being addicted to it is mostly lazziness and procastination. The majority of people won't be ruing there own lifes or the lifes of other people around them once they get addicted to it. Therefore its considered a softdrug.
Is their no danger involved then?
Yes there is 1 real danger involved with using marijuana. Marijuana alone or especially when it's combined with other medicines/drugs can cause psychoses! This only accurs to a very small amount of people and it's usually happening to people that already suffer from other mental health conditions. But psychoses is a real threat of you are mental health isn't that great15 Reply- 1 y

Marijuana is so much safer than hard drugs... In every way.
They are so far apart that using the word "Drugs" to describe marijuana is misleading.
Marijuana is definitely not a hard drug.215 Reply- 1 y
It's a gateway drug though isn't it?
- 1 y
First. I smoke too much weed myself. I think that anyone's life is just fine for not smoking weed. I am not encouraging you, or anyone else to smoke weed.
The gateway drug thing is a false way to look at it. So... talk to anybody who has had issues with real drugs (hard drugs)... and yes, marijuana is almost certainly the first "drug" they began with.
But that doesn't mean marijuana was responsable for that. It does introduce you to the crinal underworld. Where it's illegal. But whatever it is, that makes a person inclined to want to try heroin, or methamphetamie, or crack or anything else... has nothin to do with them smoking weed.
Marijuana is so common and safe, that it is the first drug most anyone would try. But all the people who smoked too much weed along with me in high school... don't smoke very oftenb these days. They grew out of it.
But the vast majority of people... smoke weed occasionally, when they've set some time asside to do so. And it's a big deal and a fun night. Problematic weed smoking for sure is a problem for a percentage of people.
The problem with thiking of weed as a drug, is that... once you smoke weed, and realize it's... not this horrible drug... like real drugs. So you underestimate the degree to which... real drugs are a whole other thing.
But most people who smoke weed do not use hard drugs.
Most hard drug users started by smoking weed.
It's not a gateway. It's just the first drug someone inclined to try crack is likely to be exposed to.
There's no causation there. It doesn't MAKE you more likely to do hard drugs (unless you think that the stuff people say about drugs being bad, is all bullshit... because you've realized they were lying about how bad weed is).
- 1 y
Again. I am not advocating that someone smoke weed. But it is not a bad thing. In the same universe as real drugs. In terms of fuckiing up your life, addiction, and physical safety.
I went from days of dealers worrying police were tapping their landline... to weed being made totally legal. It's been legal here for I donno...5 or 6 years? And so you can go buy it from the store. And it's all very... mundane. Not a big deal.
So if someone you know or care about is smoking weed, and you're concerned about it. I would say, that's fine to be concerned, if they're smoking too much (all day every day kinda thing). But someone who smokes a joint... like say... you would have a beer... is not any more problematic than someone drinking a beer. Same shit.
Marijuana is safer than alcohol.
If I had to choose one for my kid to use, and they would only use one. It would be to use marijuana for sure.
It is FARTHER from hard drugs than alcohol is. FOR SURE. (in every way). - 1 y
There is no evidence to support marijuana being a gateway drug. Using the same criteria, mothers' milk is a gateway drug since a higher percentage of children who were on mothers' milk end up using drugs. Neither marijuana nor mothers' milk causes people to use drugs. However, people prone to using marijuana are the type more likely to use drugs, and that would be the case whether or not marijuana were available.
The same for mothers' milk. Children living in poverty are more likely to have mothers' milk. Poor people are more likely to use drugs. That would be true whether or not they were fed mothers' milk.
- 1 y
Thanks to both of you for clearing that up!

@exitseven The idea that "correlation implies causation" is an example of a questionable-cause logical fallacy.
- 1 y
@exitseven marijuana is no more a “gateway drug” than alcohol is. The whole concept of a “gateway drug” is flawed. The only reason these two substances are commonly stated with before moving on to other things is just that: they are commonly used, and very socially accepted.
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 No, It is because the kids start associating with other druggies and soon get talked into trying other things. They think it is harmless but do not see themselves as other see them. Others notice strange behavior and a change in attitude. Internally they think that they are okay.
I worked across the street from the largest pot dispensary in the city. It is not legal for them to bo business with banks so all transactions are in cash. As a result they only let a few people in at a time and the rest are lined up outside. It looks like the line outside a homeless shelter. - 1 y
@exitseven not even bothering reading what you wrote, because I already know you’re wrong lol. www.google.com/search
- 1 y
@exitseven overwhelming amounts of evidence have debunked the gateway theory a long time ago. If anything, alcohol is more of a gateway drug than marijuana is.
- 1 y
@exitseven no one starts smoking weed, and then says “let’s do some cocaine now.” However, though, tons of people have that thought after drinking
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 I just know that everyone who got messed up with drugs I knew in the 80s started with getting high with pot. Everyone..
- 1 y
@exitseven and? One of the first points that Google search that I posted points out states: correlation does not equate to causation. Many factors contribute to that. It’s not one single linear cause and effect explanation. You can feel free to scream into the darkness all you want, but the gateway theory was debunked decades ago.

1 yLmfao, no, definitely not a hard drug. I blaze all the time, since forever, and it just kind of alters my mood a bit, but I’m still completely functional and the same as I always am.
Like I used to play semipro football, full-contact, real football against 250, 300 lb MFers, and there were a few road games where we smoked a blunt on the way up. I would NEVER play ball on anything else, even alcohol. That idea sounds terrifying, lmao. Weed was whatever. I’d maybe opt to not do that, only due to minor short term memory lapses, like “wait…. what did he say the snap count was on?”😂
If I’m at 100 sober, I’m at like 99.9999 stoned. It’s just not that kind of buzz. I can’t speak for everyone, I guess, but myself, for sure. Observationally, I’d say the same, other than a few people who it seems to not agree with. But those are the people who just don’t burn, and that’s the reason why. It’s not like they do it anyway and are just always freaked out😂 They just tried it a handful of times and don’t like it, or I’ve heard some say the effects changed for them, but in all cases, they just stopped using it.
I think psychological addiction is possible, but not really physical. I’d just say I don’t sleep well if I’m not regularly using THC. But I took a tolerance break that I just let run for about 90 days. I was fine, I just didn’t enjoy it, because I prefer being able to use it. But I wasn’t like scratching and going through withdrawals or anything, and I go through a good amount of bud, and for a long time. Case in point, even after 90 days I wasn’t able to pass a home drug test. That shit is just IN ME🤣
But I remember the first time I smoked after that I was like “WHOA😵💫”, haha. But then that went away after a couple times too. I think it really only affects you in a significant way if it just doesn't generally agree with you, or if you don’t use it with any regularity. Or if you just took way, WAY too much in the form of something edible. Otherwise, it’s tough to really get yourself spun in a way where you aren’t functional.
As Dave Chappelle says: “It’s a background substance. You ain’t CRISP…. but you’ll function.”😂😂😂
https://www.youtube.com/embed/ze7CiKeVxe0I feel like I’m still very crisp though. Maybe I’m just really good at it😝

m 1 yChemical perspective, about substance. In how the term is used around me, by medcare, it isn't considered a "hard drug", but... "Cannabis use, through the action of Δ-9-THC, favors the emergence of psychotic disorders, precipitates the onset of the illness in vulnerable subjects and, on the other hand, alters the evolution of the pathology among those who have already developed it." (source)
Psychological perspective, about addiction. Many things can be a "hard drug", in the sense of harmfully addictive, separate from what a substance is objectively. So, yes, I believe THC can be a hard drug, like alcohol, like work, like sex, like video games, like books even. When one uses an activity in response to a constant need to forget thinking, feeling and/or remove themselves from the world around.
13 ReplyI love your answer and it is written well but I can't agree that it is a hard drug, for instance alcohol for a person that say drinks a bottle or two a day of spirits and stops suddenly can actually die due to physical addiction but a person that smokes a million bongs a day and stops there is no such thing. ie. it won't potentially kill them. Same as if they stop working, stop having sex, stop playing video games or reading books. Yes they all have a dopamine response but if they stop there is no potential death if they do.
I acknowledge this quote from your opinion as true " When one uses an activity in response to a constant need to forget thinking, feeling and/or remove themselves from the world around".- 1 y
@Communicationisking
Then this partial disagreement looks due to the fact that you define the term hard in hard drug as life threatening. While, for me, I define hard in a broader sense, it's already "hard" to me when it is related to psychological consequences. I suppose it means that I view drugs as always hard somehow? I'll have to think about it I like your response. You make me think about it too now.
Love intelligent conversation. Much appreciated ❤
6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It's definitely not a hard drug. Not even close.
Abraham Lincoln once said that his favorite thing to do was to sit on his porch, smoke "sweet hemp" (his words) and play his harmonica.
You can't od on it. At most, it will make you fall asleep with no hang overs or side effects. It's far, far, far safer than alcohol.
It's not at all physically addictive, but people can get hooked on the feeling and develop a desire to get high all the time. That's not the nature of weed, itself. It's a function of certain people's personalities. Some people are just obsessive/compulsive when it comes to things that make them feel good. But most people aren't effected in that way.
I know lots of people, a surprising number, who are school teachers, corporate VPs, business people, tradesmen, etc, etc. who smoke weed occasionally and have no addictions or negative effects. It's like the ability to enjoy cocktails without becoming an alcoholic.
It's not a gateway drug. That's unprovable, "Reefer Madness" propaganda. There's nothing about weed that makes a person say, "Gee, I think I want to try heroin, meth or cocaine."
It's more like, people who like to get high are more likely to try other means as well as weed. But that doesn't mean that the majority of people who try weed are going to go on to hard drugs. I didn't.
Also, when weed is illegal, people who smoke it are sort of forced to buy it from and associate with people who do other illicit drugs.
If weed was sold like alcohol, it would be perfectly safe.12 Reply- 1 y
aren't there stronger strains than existed back then?
- 1 y
@HelpfulGirlll. Some strains were higher quality than others. Like coffee, it came from different regions. Common names were Colombian, Acapulco Gold, Oaxaca, Michoacan, and so on.
But back in the day, they didn't spend time on processing. A bag of weed contained dried buds, seeds, leaves and stems. So you had to spend time removing "sticks and seeds" before you could roll a doobie. It was often old and dried out, too.
Now days, they don't just grow large farm fields of indica or sativa and ship it hundreds of miles. People have developed a wide variety of seedless, hybrids. It's more like an artisan industry. And they trim the buds very carefully. And it's WAY more expensive.
So, the few times I've smoked since 2002, the weed had been MUCH more potent than back in the day. A couple of puffs and I was done.
1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No it's not a hard drug. And it was in the Bible by another name and it would heal everything.

1 yMarijuana can be psychologically addictive. It has more to do with the physiology and psychology of the user than the psychoactive effects of the drug, but that is so with all addictions.
Despite the “war on drugs” propaganda, there is no such drug that instantly and permanently hooks everyone who uses it on the first try. People are different, and we are the ones who suffer addiction in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons.
There’s a lot of ignorance surrounding addiction, particularly in the west. It might be the second greatest taboo behind sex.10 Reply 2.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I believe that back in the 60's and 70's it was some good 💩👍🏼!! It was pure with no chemical additives. It was $10/lid and $15/lid for the real good stuff.
I'm not exactly sure if it was during the 80's or when but they added chemicals to it. One was called DC14 in the 80's. I don't think they put that drug in it anymore though because they have stronger and better chemicals now like TCH in it.
So yes, I would consider it a hard drug now for sure.
Not sure if it's addictive but maybe the chemicals they are adding to it now are probably where the addiction comes from.10 Reply- 1.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
1 yNo, it's less of a problem than alcohol. If everyone would just smoke weed instead of boozing it up the crime rate would drop over night. Of course it would be even better if people stopped using intoxicants all together but that's not going to happen. As to addiction people get addicted to all kinds of things even food if you look at "Dank Demoss" and such people, fat af and headed for the grave. Gambeling addiction is also common, no drug there at all but it's still a common addition.

1 yi would say it's a hard drug. you can develop physical addiction (despite stoner propaganda saying you can't which is a lie). you can also get lung cancer just like from smoking, in fact marijuana even has more of the cancerous substances and you tend to inhale it deeper into the lung but unlike from smoking you have a massively increased risk for psychosis and other terrible psychological illnesses if you smoke marijuana so i wouldn't call it a soft drug by any means. yeah you're not gonna die from one joint but if that's not the definition of a "hard drug". that would be the definition of deadly poison. but you are likely to get psychosis, cancer and cardiovascular issues.

1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Addiction is not considered to be a disease. With that being said, addiction carries certain characteristics. One of which is the lack of control concerning whatever you are addicted to. In this case marijuana. I do not think that marijuana causes the out of control tendency that would have a user doing whatever it takes to be able to buy it.
However some look at the inability to stop as being the out of control tendency. Personally I do not use marijuana since I can be drug tested at work. But to me just because I don’t stop doesn’t mean I can’t stop. Which is what a lot of people might think. As I said I don’t use it but I used to and thst is the reason I can speak on the subject as I do. So to answer the question, no I do not think it is a hard drug or that you can get addicted to it. But with that said, I am sure there are people that would abuse it to the point where others may believe them to be addicted….20 Reply- 563 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
1 yMarijuana is not a hard drug, but like coffee, though coffee addiction is physical, you can become psychologically addicted to it. studies have shown.
And marijuana seems to make you want to smoke or imbibe MORE marijuana which seems to kill your drive to do anything other than to be a pothead. You become a sloth.
So, it should, like alcohol, only be done on occasion, or it can interfere with your life.20 Reply Yes, it's addicting in a way. Physically there are no withdrawal symptoms you won't get sick or end up in the hospital if you quit cold turkey but it's psychologically addictive because it's relaxing and habit forming. I say this as someone who smokes daily and frankly more than I should. I'm trying to cut back some for financial and health reasons, but it also helps a lot with my stress depression and back pain.

To have addiction to weed that causes physical dependency, you fall into the same psychological effect as those who believe they have something medically wrong with them so it starts showing symptoms. Yet they've got no such medical issue. It's a purley psychological bluff than chemical addiction.
