Why do people say suicide is cowardly?

It’s a defense mechanism. A sexist one at that. Nobody says that crap about female suicides. We only victim blame men and boys. Mostly because men’s sole value to society is protecting and providing for women and their children. Who cares if everyone hates you? You have a responsibility to provide resources to those same people. Quit crying and go do your job!
At some level, the people saying that sh*t know that if they hadn’t been selfish and wicked human beings that the person who killed themselves would most likely still be alive; possibly even (GASP) happy. So when it’s a man, victim blaming is encouraged. That way nobody has to accept responsibility for their part in another person’s unending misery and untimely demise. The person you hated and demeaned or disrespected and ignored is the bad guy, not the people doing those wicked things to another human being.
Our entire society is grotesquely selfish. Describing suicide that way deflects from the truth.

Because once you're dead, you have no more problems but, if you would've stayed alive and tried to fight your way through... the coward's way out is to just run away from your problems. Sure, it takes a LOT of guts to do it but, it takes a lot more guts to try to work things out!

Because people think you can work on your life and overcome whatever issues that's been making you miserable and extremely stressed... and that you can turn your life back around but you choose not to. They think leaving your loved ones behind just to escape your problems makes you the kind of person who is taking an easier route. While I don't agree that suicide is cowardly but I don't think it's something anyone should do and this is coming from a person who's been depressed and had some dark thoughts too but I came out of it.

Because it is the easy way out of a miserable life. Recovery is a much tougher, longer road to take. It is simpler to take your own life rather than put in years of therapy, medication trials, seek out support and go through patches of relapse in order to live a healthy, happy life.

it's a way of avoiding problems that seem too big to solve that in general, are often vapor. It's an easy way out that hurts others. Most problems are a matter of change, with enough support, can make the changes.

I think some cases, it's reasonable. IF there's no hope of life, if that life is ruining others... then say goodbye seems reasonable. Have to deal with reality.

When so young, you should be solving problems and getting to a better place. Way too many people give up. We've had young people attempt and succeed around here. it's sad.

For the same reason people get mad at those people who opt out of dating. Have the courage to trust another that makes ZERO logical sense (dating). Is kind of like having the courage each day to wake up a face a world that does not give 2 💩's about you. Every body has to do it. To date everyone has to do all the little things that they hate doing. And when you opt out of dating just like when you opt out of living you're taking the "easy" way out. And that pisses people off. Why do you get to take the easy way out and I have to keep waking up each day, dealing with these a**holes?

It's either a manipulation tactic, arrogance, or just ignorance. Maybe something else as well but those are the first ones that come to mind. Usually it's arrogance. A luxury mindset that they can afford mainly because their minds can better easily handle the stresses in their lives.

It can be considered an act of cowardice. If you get a long jail sentence a gutless person will hang themselves in their cell instead of taking their punishment. When kids commit suicide because they are bullied it is cowardice as well. It is easier to take your own life instead of facing your tormentors. Sometimes it takes courage like taking the poison pill if you are captured by the enemy.
