There are 79 percent more departments that are in the At-Risk and Distressed categories than there are in the Competitive or Attainment categories.

I am pushing for the Fire and Emergency Services Reform and Accountability Act (FESRAA). This act will also add protections into law for emergency service personnel, including immunity for off-duty EMS personnel who act in good faith during a medical emergency when help is far away. In addition, there would be incentives offered to volunteers to encourage recruitment and retention.

LA burned down in January because they let the fire department, the fire trucks and the water supply go to hell. Complete neglect by the state and local government. And still nothing has been done about it.

At least many counties in California have county fire departments. Hell, they even have a state fire department. We have a state forestry division, but not like the fire departments you would picture. Fire and EMS is mainly a "county issue" here, and most counties have volunteer, non profit (and even for-profit) entities providing these critical services. There are no incentives for volunteers, and we are one out of 10 states that don't even have increased penalties for assaulting a firefighter or EMT.

I live in LA. The Palisades fire was out of control due to the santa ana winds here, and the multiple fires all occurring at once in various areas.

There was nothing wrong with our fire departments or the fire trucks. The amount of water available is not infinite.
