The offices may be geographically there but their registry is in places like Delaware so the IP is still tied up and due to the nature of secession, likely subject to export control.

These states also heavily rely on import and export and would instantly be cut off. Essentially blockaded by the US navy. Similar to how the British blockaded west africa to kill off the slave trade.

They would rapidly shrink to just the two cities as the surrounding counties all vote red and would assist the federal government in making the border the city limits, rejoining (or maintaining their inclusion in) the USA as part of a neighboring state.

With no natural resources, little to no energy or food production (And massive consumption) all that money they have would vanish in tariffs.
