People of GAG, What would you do if you administered life saving care to someone and they turned around and accused you of Sexual assault for it?

This happened about a month ago. It was a work luncheon (basically the company catered lunch). I'm eating. People around me are eating. One of my colleagues started choking on an olive. Well im trained in adult first aid, CPR and Heimlich maneuver. So i got behind her, did what i was trained to do, and the olive shot out of her mouth at high speed.

A few days later i was pulled into HR because said coworker whom is now alive because of my actions, accused me of inappropriately touching her while doing what i did. Basically she felt my um equipment press into her.. Anyway If you need to ask what the the Heimlich maneuver is, pleas just google it. i dont feel like explaining it.

I gave my version of events. They put me on leave (with pay), while they investigated, they spoke to everyone there and even got the surveillance videos of it, Found me innocent, Asked me to come back, Gave me a pay raise even. But now the colleague who accused me is pissed off because i won't associate with her any more. Which is true. I treat her like she doesn't exist, Why should i associate with someone who falsely accused me, and tried to get me fired. I have basically made the determination that i will never render aid to anyone any more because i dont want the chance of losing my job. I have a wife and kids who depend on me, its just not worth it.

What would you do in this situation?

That sucks, she doesn’t have a grateful bone in her body, what a shame. I’m sorry to hear that. I would ask the hr manager to ask everyone else for evidence. In a situation that is life threatening like that, I’m sure everyone else will feel the urgency and understand there was no intent to harass in such delicate times, something that can happen so quickly, like someone choking, needs to be addressed quickly and there’s no time to think of anything else. I would absolutely try to stay away from her at all costs because she might be bitter and now she looks like the lier and might even try to prove that she’s not by making up more false accusations.

Something similar happened to my dad, but it was a 13 year old girl who was choking. Her mom was screaming and my dad ran over and quickly administered the Heimlich, which worked. The girl was crying and seemed embarrassed by all the attention. She got up and ran out and her mom ran after her. That was the last we saw them but my dad got a visit from two cops the next day and was told the mother was pressing charges for assault. WTF? They took him downtown for questioning and brought him home a few hours later. After a few days someone called and said the charges had been dropped. This was like 15 years ago at a fish and chips place. Some people are just fucked up.

A similar thing happened in Korea where a woman needed some first aid at a station and multiple men refused (they ALL had first aid training because THEY must attend military training as women are exempt) because a woman had sued and destroyed a MEDIC'S life after he literally saved her life because she "felt" he'd molested her and accused him of something she didn't like.

Sadly, in the USA, people are indoctrinated to believe men are rapist and pedophiles. For men, women are dangerous, and children are even more dangerous. Suppose a 5-year-old girl is chasing a ball into a busy street, and you pick her up and carry her to a safe place. If the mother sees you carrying her, she is going to go nuts. You might get arrested for kidnapping or worse. It is understandable if you do nothing. If a car hits her, so be it.

Why does this make you think you should not save someone dieing? Sounds to me like everything turned out right you say you even got a pay raise out of it and put on paid leave for sometime. That sounds to me like a reward and vacation for saving a life. You ignore her at work and it sounds like she in a way is paying for trying to hurt you for helping. I don't think it's wrong of her to report you if she really felt you did something wrong to her you should apologize and explain your intent was to save her life... The reason for human resources is to decided who did right and wrong... they sided with you so why are you taking negative things from a bunch of positive outcomes... the way I see it you saved a life, got a vacation, earned the respect of the workplace, got a pay raise, and your job back. And you really wouldn't do it all again?

The ignorance of people like @aaron13547 makes them worse than evil. You are fortunate that it went no further than HR, and very few people found out about it. If she had filed a police report or even called 911, it wouldn't matter that a few days later the charges were dismissed. You would have been arrested and had to post bond.

That is all people would remember. You would have been fired and unable to get another similar job, because companies cannot afford to damage their reputation. People would assume the worst, point fingers, and friends and family would fear and avoid you.

If you were an extremely bright student attending Harvard or MIT, you would have been expelled when arrested. You would not be reinstated because it is better to sacrifice you than to risk their reputation. Even if you changed your name, you would not be able to transfer to another college because colleges use your SSN in the National Student Clearinghouse, which is a centralized database containing information about college students in the United States. The fact that you were expelled for SA would be used as justification to refuse admission to other colleges.

So i am worse then evil because I pointed out intentions mean everything? I'd have never even imagined someone could sue for saving their life. I'd have never imagined touching anyone inappropriately I pointed out there is so much wrong with this situation. I lose a little hope in people when I see stuff like this. Nothing at all is right about any of this period. I'm sorry I commented and I'm sorry it's been taken out of context. Id never put myself around people that would die and then sue for saving there life... that's all see here everything else about the situation is complete fuckary. I apologize again for my opinion.
