When I had my hip replacement surgery I was at home for a couple of days and could not really get around very good. I heard a knock at the door so I got my walker and hobbled over to see who it was. It was the local cops. It turns out my next door neighbors house had been broken into and several items were stolen and they wanted to know if I saw anything.
It could have just as easily been my house that they broke into. Since I was 2 days post op I really could not have done much to fight them off.
That was when I started to think about gettign some firearms.

I suggest a lightweight.45 revolver. Like a Para Ordnance P14-45 LDA can be left loaded, empty chamber and activated by pulling back the hammer. No racking. No jamming. Also a pump action shotgun with a hand grip like a Stevens 320. Shoot straight!

@Dargil I thought a revolver would be simpler to maintain so I bought a S&W Model 66. It is pretty big but it has a lot of stopping power. I also have a Remington 870 12 Gauge.

Only three things I ever say (demanding a yes/no answer) once I confirm their body cams are on, have them recite their names & badge numbers & I have my phone out to record.

"Is this a consensual encounter?"

"Am I free to go?"

"Do you suspect me of a crime?"

I have. They often are fine responding AFTER crime related emergencies. They suck at everything else.

Don't let them in. If they can hear you, call for a warrant. If they "just want to ask you a few questions", tell them to call you on your cell phone and you will talk to them while they are present. Set your phone up to record the conversation and tell them you are up front. Never answer any questions about guns.
