Inspired by @Avicenna I've never understood why Democrats were always for strong union wages and a living wage for those not in unions. Why? That's cray cray! Won't that just drive up prices for consumers? That crazy Zohran Mamdani wants a $30.00 per hour minimum wage. Why? Does he not care about how much prices will go up?
I was very impressed with that Los Angeles pot farmer who cared about his customers enough to only hire low paid undocumented immigrants and some children to work in the sun. Now that's being loyal to your customer base, and caring.
There was a very large engine rebuilding facility where I used to live. ICE raided it and took out 300 undocumented workers. Great. Now look how much an engine will cost for your car if you need one. I could go on and on with examples, but there are very few jobs where Americans can't be replaced by undocumented workers. I have a good friend named Esteban. He is a Salvadorian who illegally entered Mexico. That was so easy that he and his wife decided to go for the gold. Esteban was smart and hired a professional coyote to sneak them across the border. Esteban told me that the coyote told him and his wife: "when the Gringos spot us, and they will, don't run off in your own directions, follow me, because I know what I'm doing." Well, the coyote was right, the Gringos spotted them. I couldn't stop laughing because it reminded me of the description Richard Pryor gave about evading police dogs. 😄🤣😂😂 He said that the police dogs are fast, but they can't catch a "lowrunner."
Don't you agree that Americans would starve if famers had to pay a living wage to immigrants?

The union leaders used to endorse Democrats all the time and provided GOTV services as well as campaign contributions (government workers' unions and service workers' unions still do). Illegals send a lot of money back home via remittances so they aren't sending in campaign contributions. They do, however, provide the head count needed for the rotten boroughs that keep sanctuary states from losing a whole lot of Congressional seats and electoral votes (don't forget the Democrats want to get rid of the Electoral College and any checking of Voter ID). To get agricultural employers to employ the illegals and provide that head count for rotten boroughs, Democrats prevent enforcement from occurring. Bear in mind that there is a visa program for farmworkers.
And don't forget that Democrats constantly want a "path to citizenship" for illegals. Imagine the negotiating leverage that would give leftist activist attorneys if they know juries will be full of impoverished naturalized US citizens hostile to the targets of their lawsuits.
This is why I question the idea for representative democracy. Do American citizens ever get represented? If it were put up to a referendum vote, how many Americans would want women with dicks in the same locker room as real women?
We don't have our policy preferences represented, that is for sure. The locker room example you give is only one example of insanity opposed to most citizens' wishes.
In my state there was a referendum vote on whether the government is the only entity qualified to sell liquor. The result was hilarious. Both sides of the aisle said" Fuck No." So now people don't have to drive for miles to get to a government store and wait in line like the dmv. Now you can buy the same thing at a gas station down the block.

America got along just fine without exploiting illegal aliens. What people do not realize is that in most democrat run cities where illegals are loving are the most expensive places to live in the country. There is no way that they could afford to live there without government assistance. Everyone has to pay to support them and their emergency rooms are always filled up and veterans and the elderly are living in the streets while illegal aliens are put up in hotels.
Hospitals near the border have gone out of business, and the Democrats are blaming the Republicans. This is what they do. They hate gerrymandering unless they're the ones doing it.
It's true that machines are going to replace humans in agriculture. A couple hundred years ago it was like 80% of people worked in agriculture, cuz that's how you fed your family. Last I heard it was down to 3%, and soon it will be 0%.
In the year 2000 75% of vegetable crops and 55% of fruit crops were mechanically harvested, not hand harvested. Over the past 25 years those numbers have continued to increase... It's not a some day thing. It's a historic thing that happened before you were born.
In under 15 minutes machines shake loose 36,000 pounds of oranges from 100 trees, catch the fruit and drop it into a large storage car. That would have taken four pickers all day long. That's not the reality of modern agriculture though. Cheap labor means machines, not illegal immigrants. If you want cheap food, drop the price of oil.
Only 1% of illegal immigrants work in agriculture. 90%+ go to big cities. Half of them are on welfare. Often times they collect a government check from blue states and then they have a main hustle in crime/drugs that they do under the counter. The ones that do work honest jobs main work in construction, hospitality, and professional services in big cities. After that would be manufacturing, retail trade, and the general service sector.
I've seen many Jacques Fresco videos. He was a brilliant and fascinating person. He contends that humans are meant for better things than monotonous labor. People don't like to accept that, but New York has just approved self-driving cars and some of those combines you talked about don't have drivers in them. Heck, I'm always amazed when I drive down the street and see robotic lawn mowers.
