The attack on the World Trade Center happened almost 24 years ago. Many people were not born yet or were too young to remember it. Should September 11th be known as Remembrance day and always celebrated on the day of September 11th? We should never forget what happened on that day, and th people who were killed.
No I'd actually rather forget that day I'm pretty sure a lot of people on this platform probably either weren't alive yet or can't remember it happening live and 19 years after it happened I started watching footage from that day and when I seen it happen in real time I was in disbelief I had some bad shit going on in my life at the time I really couldn't feel really bad for these people when I was going through a lot of shit and I live lost apparent recently like in some other things but going back and watching it again Disturbed me to the point or I didn't not feel right I felt I can't explain it to feeling maybe I was feeling the hopelessness of the people that were jumping out of those buildings seeing it as you know a 38-year old at the time instead of a 19-year-old that's when I guess it really hit me the enormity of that situation and we can we can remember it but I don't think we should have a holiday a Federal holiday to celebrate it I don't think that's something that should be celebrated. If you or not you know like old enough to experience it happened I guess you could try to go back and watch some of the footage and I don't know if it'll have the enormity because if you never seen it in the past you're not going to see it live you're not going to see it live in order you're going to see it you know clip here a clip there edited you know censored we watched that stuff happen live on TV like you can't censor all those people jumping and I guess as as an older adult because I don't really think 19 you're really a full adult yet it really hit me that those are people choosing to take control over their own death they weren't committing suicide they were taking an option of do I burn to death or do I fall to death and being more mature when I seen it again because I seen it live I remember seeing it those events happened and I remember seeing things that maybe I wasn't watching cuz it was all pouring back and you know regardless whether there was the jet fuel weak in the steel or this that and the other thing is there were people that know it was coming because there were people who filmed the first impact meaning they had Advanced knowledge of what was going to happen and they instead of stopping it they allowed it to continue they didn't warn anybody and I'm not going to say what or who but if you want to look you'll find it it's not a secret it's just not talked about. I think almost 3,000 lives were lost that day or a little over or something I think it's just under and that led to two separate Wars that lasted pretty much two decades and then how many more lives were lost. So no and I apologize for the run-on sentence I'm doing talk to text there's no way in hell I'm wasting my time typing all this so all the grammar and spelling errors oh well too bad. No this should not be a federal holiday because it was a tragedy and it's okay to have a memorial to it but I don't think it should be constantly reminded every year where we take the day off and we stop what we're doing in recognition of a heinous act. December 7th is not a federal holiday nor should it be either but at least on December 7th 1941 we knew who attacked us definitively and honestly I don't think they really know what happened that day they just decided to point a finger. Yeah I'm an asshole I get it, I'm not going to tell you what you want to hear unless it's also what you need to hear. I have more respect than the patronized people I want to see people grow.

Yes, I think it should be, knowing that almost 3000 people perished in the towers. What a sad day that was. I will never forget --and how I learned about it at work, what we had to do with students (at my school), and the eerie quietness of that night with no planes flying in the sky. People were in shock and afraid. It deserves to be a federal holiday, or at least a day of remembrance as a form of respect for those who perished.

@avery58 Tons of differences between 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, exponentially more people died in 9/11 and Pearl Hatbor was a military target during time when a world War was taking place. Two completely different things. Obviously 9/11 should be a holiday, it will just take a little more time and the right type of politician to do it.

I think that the day slaves were freed, should be recognized as an important event in history. I don’t think Columbus Day should be celebrated, as he did not “discover” America when natives were already here. He may have discovered it for Europe; he wasn’t the first person on the land.

I realize that in 1863 when Lincoln first delivered the Emancipation Proclamation saying that all slaves were then freed, some states did not follow. Texas was one of those states, and after 2 1/2 years troops were sent to Texas to enforce. That is why it is celebrated. And I agree it SHOULD be a federal holiday as a form of respect to all the slaves who suffered at the hands of their “ owners”. No one should be owned.

The emancipation Proclamation only purported to free slaves in portions of the South that were NOT under Union control. None of the Southern states were legally compelled to honor the proclamation. And it did NOT free slaves in portions of the Southern states that were already under control, or in the Northern states where slavery was still legal.

As a non American perhaps I should have a different perspective or opinion but I don’t think a holiday would be fitting. Holidays are positive and time for loved ones , friends and family or enjoyment and entertainment. I’d personally feel guilty on such a holiday on such a tragic day.
Thousands of people lost their lives on that day so needlessly not to mention the heroic first responders who perished in attempting to save lives with countless thousands affected by direct relationship to both. This will NEVER be forgotten within their lives , their pain being dragged to the forefront on every anniversary.
I would say a holiday for those directly affected of that’s even manageable but otherwise just given the same respect as those who have suffered in other mass casualty tragedies.
I remember the day vividly as events unfolded and news was broadcast , ironically I was on holiday. I was also lucky enough to visit New York & Manhattan in the years following and speak to a few affected and support in their grief.

I work a a state college and we used to have a ceremony everry Sept 11th. one of the facillities guys made a bell out of an welding tank and they would ring it. Local politicians would show up. It was always very moving.

It's not going to happen. There's a reason why majority of holidays are in the winter in the coldest, darkest time of the year. Less work can be done so lets make it a point to do nothing.

More than 3,000 people died in the World Trade Center that day, and way more than 3,000 people died that same day in car accidents, in hospitals, many places and many causes, all over the country, all over the world. Why are the 9/11 deaths any more important than those?
I do think there should be something for the firefighters and police and other heroes who rushed into that building to help when others were rushing out.
