Should 9/11 be a federal holiday?

It has been 22 years since terrorists crashed 2 jetliners into the World Trade Center in New York killing thousands of Americans and causing a seismic shift in everyone's lives.

There are many who were not born yet or were too young to remember it. Do you think we need to take a day to remember the dead and the sacrifices of our first responders?

No, not a national dar where the post offices are closed, the banks are closed, the government is closed schools are closed - no not that kind of rememberence.

For one thing there are millions of people that are living in America 🇺🇸 that aren't Americans. They are just here, but not American's.

Weren't American 🇺🇸 planes with mostly American's involved in the horrible way they died? The plane in Pennsylvania looked like American's that fought for their lives, and all of them were lost.
I'm sure the Pentagon had mostly American's working there and trying to fight for their lives. The same with both World Trade Center's. If I'm not mistaken, don't they already have a memorial for the lives that were lost?

If you want a day off from work take one of your sick days.

Sure all people should know about what happened on 911. But remember when we got off for Columbus day or Washington's birthday? This country isn't even patriotic as it was back then. The kids just got a day off from school and that's all they cared about. Yeah🎉

We have Veterans Day to remember our military veterans and Independence day to remember the birth of our nation. We have parades and cookouts and it is a celebration. As it should be. We are living in the greatest nation that ever existed

Where my sister lives the kids are off for teacher service days all the time. They don't need holidays too.

@Daniela1982 Yes, I worked in a K-12 school system and every month the teachers had a "professional development " day. Half the staff would blow it off completely and the rest would not come back after lunch.

Why have a holiday for something that no one seems to care about in our own government? That single day brought our nation together and brought in new rules for airport security and the TSA. But Biden said, screw that. @msc545 None of my grandparents were illegal immigrants. None of my wife's grandparents were illegal either. There was leadership in government that enforced the laws. These laws were passed to avoid the kinds of problems we are experiencing today. . There has been a Malaria epidemic where I live. My wife regularly sees patients with Tuberculosis. When we has effective leadership immigrants were given thorough physicals and if they had health issues they were put back on the boat and sent back to where they came from.
They needed a sponsor so they would not cost taxpayers billions and billions of dollars to support them. up until 3 years ago we had borders and a good degree of security. Once we have the first terrorist strike it will be really apparent that we are currently under the leadership of the worst president in American history.

i believe that is the case which means another day the federal government can take off. I don't think that should be the case.

although at the same time i wouldn't have a problem if it was made a national holiday. actually a congressmen from my state has written up a bill to make it a federal holiday

Every federal holiday takes a day from our productivity, and once we create a holiday, it will never be rescinded.

You are right about that. I have a really good job, better than my last one but the thing I miss about working for the statecwas all the paid holidays. There was one almost every month. Sometimes more than one. In November we had Veterans Day , Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving.

More than 7000 died in the Battle of Gettysburg, which also had a major impact on US history, and we don't celebrate that. It's not right to have a holiday for every sad moment in history.

The more important thing why there would not be a federal holiday for 9/11 is that there is already Labor Day, and you can't have two holidays that close together.
