Earlier today, MSNBC senior analyst Matthew Dowd suggested Charlie Kirk's "hateful" rhetoric led to his shooting and speculated that one of his supporters may have fired the shot in celebration. He said Kirk has been "one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions."

Suppose that Rashida Tlaib or Ilhan Omar had been assassinated at a public event, and a Fox analyst suggested that their own words had caused the assassination. The liberal world would go crazy with rage at Fox and whatever analyst made the statement. And Fox would likely fire the analyst.

How did MSNBC respond? It issued an apology on an X/Twitter account that only has 20,000 followers! How can liberals claim that conservatives are filled with hate when they engage in such actions? And I challenge anyone to provide credible proof that Charlie Kirk ever made hateful statements.

How can anyone try to defend Matthew Dowd? This is NOT about freedom of speech; Dowd had the legal right to make those idiotic comments, but having the legal right doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.

Alright, so…. first off…. I hated Charlie Kirk with the fire of a thousand suns. He is someone who had a poisonous lack of humanity and empathy. Not having universal empathy is basically the worst quality a human could have to me. I could never, ever respect that, because…. what’s the argument FOR it being respectable?

He or anyone with that mentality, I wouldn’t leave my kids (if I had them) around them for fear of the harm they could do to their personal character, the same way I wouldn’t leave them around a pedophile for fear of physical/emotional harm. Different offenses, but at the same time, six of one and half-a-dozen of the other. But I’m just saying I take selective or non-existent empathy THAT seriously, that’s a mortal societal sin to me.

And all this said, I still think what happened to Charlie was disgusting. I watched this dude get a hole blown in his neck, no less than a pint of blood spurt out of him like a horror movie, and probably watched his body become paralyzed, judging by the way his arms seized up. I would be a fraud about everything I stand for if I watched that and felt anything but shock, horror, and sadness. And I sit here today proud to say I am not a fraud, because that’s how I feel about Kirk’s death and just the visual of witnessing it.

As far as MSNBC…. first, I don’t know anyone under retirement age who watches TV news with any frequency, so I don’t think “the liberal media” has quite the reach you guys give it credit for. (Quick aside: I almost said “you”, made it “you guys”, but if I say “you” going forward, I mean MAGA-brand Conservatism, MAGA supporters, just broadly, not “OlderAndWiser” specifically, none of this is personal. I mean, if the shoe fits you, I can’t say, that’s your call, but just saying I don’t mean anything targeted personally). So anything said by CNN or MSNBC or whichever boogeyman outlet are not much more than words in the wind, and not broadly representative of liberal sentiment.

Like that’s not where most left-wingers get their information from. We don’t have a FoxNews like you guys do, or let’s say we don’t consume CNN, MSNBC, etc with the same vigor or reverence as a lot of MAGA does with Fox. We recognize our outlets are opinion shows and not real, valid, reliable news; we know exactly what CNN and MSNBC are, “infotainment”. You guys don’t with FoxNews, seemingly. Ok, secondly…. life is spectral, not binary. Multiple things can be true at the same time. Was Charlie Kirk a white nationalist, a racist, a misogynist, a homophobe, a transphobe, a Christo-Fascist? My argument would be “yes.” Did he have a right to say what he was saying? “Yes.” Could what he is saying be very harmful to our society? “Yes.” Is that going to cause people he is disrespecting without any reasonable provocation to have bad feelings towards him and to feel a deep rage? “Yes.” Is it still wrong to kill him for that? “Yes.”

I won’t keep on with it, but you get the gist, hopefully. All of these things don’t necessarily go in the same box, but they’re all true or are at least opinions that I feel can be very reasonably argued for based on the *I THOUGHT* universal principle of “Let’s not be assholes to one another and try to not give each other shit”, or “Love thy neighbor as you love yourself”, for all the Christians out there. (I don’t remember the next verse being “…except in the case of…”, it was just a flat out rule, no exceptions. Now I hear the churches are teaching about “toxic empathy”🙄🤦‍♂️ What a bunch of absolute frauds😒)

And the main point is these realities of circumstances can all coexist, even if uncomfortably. It’s not “This guy was a veritable firehose of hate speech, so he got what was coming to him”; and it’s also not “He was killed for his political beliefs, and therefore that makes him a person of the highest moral character, and renders his political beliefs unimpeachable!” I feel like the right wing is trying to do the latter here. I don’t feel that the left is BROADLY doing the former, quite the opposite in fact, and I’d condemn with my full chest anyone who IS taking the angle of “serves him right.” But I’m seeing SO MUCH MORE “this is inexcusable” on the left than I am anyone rooting for this.

This is like so many other things: the aforementioned concern with The View, Sydney Sweeney’s jeans ad, etc, etc, it’s another one of these things where I’m like “we’re not even talking about that over on this side. It’s like you’re making up out of thin air that we’re offended by things to paint us as easily-triggered and prone to ridiculousness. No one cared about Sydney Sweeney until some right winger online was like “the left is SO mad!” I’m over here like “are YOU the one setting the fires? We didn’t even see the ad til you said we were pissed about it.” It’s hard to think it’s not a targeted, deliberate long-running smear campaign.

To segue from that, kind of a bigger conversation, but…. I’m not sure how to say it politely, so I’ll just be blunt: I feel like, on some level, conservatives HAVE TO know they’re wrong when it comes to the hateful aspects of the ideology. Unless you’re just unbelievably religiously/politically brainwashed beyond the limits of my comprehension, I don’t know how you go about your life either actively fucking with people, or supporting policies or institutions or groups or individuals who do, and NOT know you’re the bad guy, at least a little bit.

To quote/praphrase a content creator I watch sometimes: “You are able to see a crying child ripped away from their screaming mother by masked men, and feel NOTHING. And I regret that this has to devolve into something seemingly childish, but in most cases, I truly just feel like “YOU (conservatives) STARTED IT.” You don’t have to be homophobic, for example. Gay people, are harmless. There’s no reason to hate them, fear them, be weirded out by them, none of that. It’s no less normal or any worse of a “life outcome”, if you will, than being straight. And in a secular society, “But the Bible says…” can’t be the justification for disagreeing with that societally or legally. Period, discussion over. That’s not what America is. Freedom of religion is also freedom FROM religion. It CANNOT inform our laws or social norms. And we should maybe question any belief system suggesting that there’s any problem with these things. I’m fine with religion, but not when it’s a dragging anchor to necessary societal progress.

Another thing on my mind, before I lose the thought…. I saw a guy the other day in a T-shirt that said “My rights don’t end where your feelings begin.” I’m sure that was meant in some right wing sense, because the right wing is the “fuck your feelings” crowd (you really make yourselves seem like such nice people🙄 And then you’ll turn around and act like you have the market cornered on polite societal living, that whole performative Southern/Midwestern charm a lot of you folks champion, muttering slurs under your breath when you get in the next room😒).

Here’s my big thing: Conservative pearl-clutching over most things they’re offended by (as much as they mock people for being rightly offended by things themselves) is almost always going to get an eye roll from me. The extreme and tragic nature of this particular event, we should all clutch our pearls as human beings, and maybe think twice about our love affair with guns; and after seeing what we saw yesterday, is THIS what we dream of doing to someone else, even in self-defense? You’re a sadist if you’d relish causing that kind of harm, that was one of the most gruesome things I’ve ever seen, and I’m very desensitized to violence. I could watch it on repeat while eating, visually, but the aspect of just seeing a person’s life end in front of your eyes SHOULD affect you in some significant way, and you might want to get your head looked at if it doesn’t, especially if your sentiments towards that person were negative. You should still feel sick seeing that, or else I’d comfortably declare you a fucked up person. But for pearl-clutching, I do think it’s a little rich that you guys have a political platform that actively involves fucking with people’s rights and barring needed societal protections, seemingly for no gain of your own, just to kick them while they’re already down and walking uphill in America. I don’t understand why that makes you guys feel good, but it really seems like it’s your lifeblood. “Leave me alone! But to the meat of the question…we say this all the time when it comes to “free speech”: “Freedom of speech is NOT freedom from consequences.” This consequence…. no good, fuck whoever did this, and they’re likely on my side. This is a murder, politics are out the window at that point. I’d testify against Obama if he murdered Trump, and think they should bury him under the jail. I’m on the side of “people not dying.”

But as I outlined before, life is complex and nuanced, and multiple things could be simultaneously true. I could feel bad about the loss of life and still feel relief that we weren’t saddled with the influence of Trump, which I think is bad for America and the general humanity and decency of all Americans. That’s absolutely a possible coexistence of seemingly conflicting ideas. And death doesn’t make you good or correct. We still will remember you as you were in life.

So I just really, really don’t like how Conservatives have FOR YEARS run this playbook of verbally/legally/societally fucking with people for the heinous crimes of being LGBTQ, being a person of color, being born in another country, being a woman with anything but traditional views, not being the correct religion, yadda yadda…. constantly poking, constantly prodding, constantly jeering, constantly mocking people who often already are having a hard time as it is, and if they do or say anything back…. My final thing is just…. as a liberal, I honestly have so little genuine interest in politics. This wasn’t me ten years ago. But this is a call to action like I’ve never seen.

I'm sick of the radical left. The two recent events of Iryna Zarutska and Charlie Kirk have shown the evil of some people.

In Iryna's case, she was a 23 year old Ukranian refugee, literally coming from a bomb shelter in Ukraine to working at a Pizzeria called Zepeddin's Pizzeria in North Carolina to start a new life.

When she sat down on the train, she wasn't racist or wary of the black man behind her. He stabbed her out of nowhere. After she was stabbed, the people next to her and behind her never checked on her. Apparently there was a gofundme created for the killer too. And the worst part? The judges who let the 14 time schizophrenic criminal offender out to roam the streets, didn't even have background in law. They didn't graduate from law school. It was just black people handing jobs to black people. Watching the footage actually had me furious and I don't cry from watching footage ever, but that one actually got to me. My blood was boiling.

Then for Charlie Kirk's death, I've been on social media a lot, so I've seen all the comments literally celebrating his death. The ignorant comments saying he tried to spread hate when all he ever did was encourage debate and critical thinking. He did not hate black people. His best friend was Candace Owens. I've had to block a lot of people on social media who were posting nonsense like he wanted to enslave black people.

He was against some other people's way of life like anyone is. But he never started a movement to incite violence or hate. And yet they killed him because they didn't agree with him. I didn't agree with everything Charlie said by any means as I'm not religious myself and I'm pro-choice when it comes to abortion. But I didn't hate him. He was a man of logic.

There is a lot of evil in the world that needs to be eradicated. These past events have brought that to light. I'm Canadian and not at all patriotic, so if a war ever did happen, I'd be a deserter, because it likely wouldn't be for a cause I care about. But this... this is a war of humanity vs. insanity and I'd happily fight with my life on the line to correct this shit.

No one knows the politics of this shooter, or why he shot Kirk. The person who shot Trump's ear when he was campaigning wasn't liberal or conservative. There was no pigeonholing him. It simply appeared he wanted to make a name for himself by killing someone famous. He had Biden on his possible list of people to kill.

The guy who shot the healthcare CEO wasn't liberal or conservative. He had an ax to grind against poor healthcare.

There is no giant conspiracy of liberal shooters killing conservatives or conservative shooters killing liberals. The person who shot up the Milwaukee school didn't fit any political group. The DC sniper and the guy who he groomed and talked into shooting with him weren't shooting people for a political reason. It is anathema for humans to kill other humans unless a person is a direct threat to them, or they BELIEVE a person is a direct threat to them or others. But, belief is subjective. A person can talk themselves into believing things that aren't true, especially if they have problems with life and reality. Think of the Bourbon street killer who was hopped up on Nation of Islam hype. Neither conservative or liberal. His was a religious war against "sinners."

But killing someone will never be a rational choice unless it occurs during a war. And even then, it is still gut wrenching and sad. Such actions are never ONLY about "politics."

I consider myself liberal (progressive) and I don't think avg conservatives are filled with hate. I have many conservative family and friends that I love and respect.

I think many people are conflating conservative news personalities and avg conservatives just like they do with mainstream liberal media personalities and avg liberal citizens.

When you lack empathy for someone, it’s very easy to celebrate their death. It’s no secret that politics have become insanely divisive, and there are politicians that wholeheartedly lean into that in the name of appealing to a very loud number of their own constituents, it helps them to keep their seat in power. Charlie Kirk was pretty notoriously anti-woman and anti-choice, does that mean his death isn’t a tragedy? Of course not. both extreme ends of the political spectrum are filled with pretty much the same fanatic hate and they refuse to understand that they're each blaming the other extreme end of the things they are actually doing themself as well. both extreme ends use ideologic bullshit to legitimate the dehumanization of their respective doctrins "enemy" and thus they feel completely legitimated to do the most cruel things to them, cause in their eyes they are "lesser humans".

i would add that actually the extreme right part is actually more often aware of themself being that in many cases. like they're actually self reflected in their ideologic hate. the left is completely oblivious to it in their own case. they think they're on the moral high road while being litterally as fanatic. and i don't know which of both things is actually more dangerous.

The fact is that the ACTUAL nazis would have killed someone who spoke out against their hateful rhetoric the way Charlie did. That makes DEMOCRATS closer to "literally nazis" than Trump and his supporters.
