I think more liberally on some topics and more conservatively on others. Why is it that many people seem so argumentative on viewpoints other than their own.
Case in point: a rather conservative speaker was asked to talk at a high school graduation in Marion, Ohio. In his speech, he stated, "Choose a spouse, I suggest. I also strongly suggest to make sure to choose Biblical principles, you know, a male with a female and female with a male."
It was one comment within his recommendations for a pathway to a better life. But many people became up in arms about it. Would it be any different if he stayed the opposite?
Why have we lost respect for a perspective that may not be our own?
The problem is not what one may believe but the lost of respect to allow people to believe in a way that may be different from your own.

I am myself a Christian and a conservative. Here are my observations.
1) A lot of people today have what I'd call a hyper-inflated, hyper-aggressive, but ultimately arbitrary contempt for the past and for tradition. I've asked here for years what x-current year has to do with anything with regard to morality and nature and never gotten a satisfactory response. Many "progressives" today think that guys like me are just mourning the ashes, but what we actually want is to hand on the fire.
2) They have a flawed understanding of what love is. There are different aspects, contexts, and functions of love. Yes, love involves accepting a person's differences, but it also rightly demands truth and correction. If an athlete spends all his time playing video games and drinking soda rather than preparing for a big game, what would be the more loving thing for a friend, teammate, or parent to do? Let him continue playing video games or tell him to turn the X-Box off, drink water, and get to the gym? Sometimes, love means telling someone "no", even if it must be said directly and clearly.
Love doesn't mean automatic approval or affirmation. Neither does disagreement or correction imply hatred, scorn, or contempt, which from what I've observed is often the underlying assumption.
3) They divorce freedom and responsibility. Yes, to a certain degree, freedom means being able to do what one wishes, but what of what one ought to do? To use my previous example, is the athlete free to make his strongest contribution to his team's success if he's tired, dehydrated, and has shin splints because he didn't get enough sleep, drink enough water, and do the proper stretches? Is a student free to pass the exam if hasn't devoted enough time to study? And in the context of religious faith and morality, is a soul free to do what is pleasing to God (or choose the more excellent between two good options) and avoid what is displeasing to Him if they are not educated in faith and are too attached to food, drink, sex, money, and other such goods of the world?
Yes, we do have free will. But one should not expect to avoid the consequences - whether temporal or eternal - of bad decisions.

Its a bit like if you voiced your support for the Prince of Nigeria. Everyone knows that's a scam and expecting an audience to take it seriously just because you're in a position where you have people's attention is a bit asinine.
But in the US, at least, it's even worse - as though the Prince of Nigeria also tried to stage a bloody coup because he needed the legitimacy of actually being a leader so people would keep sending him money. There is no forgiveness for this sort of thing when no one is even sorry for it. And even if anyone was sorry, there would still need to be some atonement. But again, no one is sorry so why should anyone take the traitors seriously?

I would happily join the firing squad for any Democrat found reliably guilty of any crime for which capital punishment seems reasonable. Because conservative points are about restricting freedom and demanding conformity. The speaker used here as an example is trying to tell other people that their lives are 'unhappy' because he doesn't like same-sex couples. Also the arbitrary bible nonsense. People are just tired of theists, typically christians pushing their religion constantly and assuming everyone they're talking to shares the same religion as them.
Later in the post you ask "Would it be any different if he said the opposite?" - The opposite of what this speaker said would be "Have the relationship you want." There's nothing objectionable about that. Conservatives limit freedom, liberals give it.
Appreciate your opinion. I can understand what you're getting to. However I don't think anyone should take offense at someone suggesting following traditional biblical values is a better way to live one's life. Even if one may not agree with it, it's a valid point of view.
Take the recent arguing of people wanting to be accepted as "non-bianary." I can appreciate anyone suggesting you're either male or female.
I am much more traditional. But that's not what concerns me. The concern is that someone who lives more liberally doesn't want to accept any other point of view.
Again, your examples are not analogous. The christian is trying to tell /other people/ what to do, the non-binary person is explaining their own sense of identity.

Isn't the whole concept of a well balance society a set of laws and regulations? Is that not, in itself, a series of things one may be required or not required to do. So that would suggest that any law should be considered offensive because it would hamper our freedom.
It depends on the law. I wouldn't think this would need explained. If we look at something like murder or theft, both left and right agree these things are bad, nobody wants to be murdered or have their things taken, so everyone agrees. But if you look at laws the left and right differ on, the right wants to restrict freedom while the left wants to increase it. This is true almost entirely across the board bar rare exceptions where the left opposes things like weapons because they understand that putting weapons in the hands of the population results in more harm being caused. Contrast that with, say, the right wing opposing recreational drugs - the right is trying to control what one individual does to their /own/ body, not the bodies of others.
I’m sorry but I don’t view the Democratic Party as the party of freedom at all. The only freedom they appear to support is the kind that creates dependency and reliance on government. Anything about personal responsibility or is demonized and actively lobbied against. Your health - bodily autonomy with forced vaccinations, they pushed lockdown restrictions far beyond the scientific need to do so, they do not agree with the right to self defense, nor do they defend freedom of speech or religious freedoms. The Democrats aren’t even anti-war anymore and the most recent polls have Young Democratic men support political assassination of someone they deem a “threat to democracy” at a record high of 40% per the SPLC. It’s no coincidence that the Democratic Party has been labeling all of their political rivals as “threats to democracy”.
The GOP is far from perfect, but it has become far more populist and libertarian over the last decade whereas the Democratic Party has shifted hard to Authoritarianism. We just need to get rid of the corrupt GOP leaders.
Because the GOP has become a lunatic circus far from any definition of "conservative" I understand. Conservatives don't raise deficits by giving tax breaks to multinational corporations while raising taxes on workers , but that's been the CLEAR PATTERN of every tax cut. Trump's tax cut is causing inflation by raising the deficit even worse than Georg w bushes $1 trillion dollar tax cut for the few. Math, it's not my opinion, those are facts. Republicans are and have been shifting the tax burden from the investor to the worker since Ronald Reagan.

The liberal side of things currently has a "cult" issue going on. Anybody moderate or beyond will gladly question one another or criticism comes as it is deserved. Our current far left on the other hand echo chamber themselves and anyone that disagrees with an opinion will get pushed out... thus sayings like the left eats their own. Imagine being left leaning but you think it's kind of fucked up to be taking kids to strip clubs and grooming them for 'adult' jobs of the transsexual type... you'll get shunned and outgrouped by them pretty fast. It's a club where you'd have to agree with some bullshit just to get along. Meanwhile let's take me... I think compressors should be re-legalized for guns. I'm 100% open to any counter arguments.
Mostly because of how liberal policies usually result in disaster and liberals do not have a good answer to why they fail. All you have to look at is Biden's so called green policies. He revoked oil leases on public land and caused enough uncertainty within the oil industry he had basically shut it down. This had no effect on people buying electric cars, or skateboards and did nothing to help global warming. Instead it touched off the worst case of inflation in 45 years. People who complain about paying 5 bucks a gallon for gas are called rednecks because the liberals really have no other response for the damage that they caused.

How he said it, was more the issue than what he said. This is what's wrong with your generation, you seem to still think you're living in the 60's where "saying it like it is" means you should get a free pass for whatever you spout.
Because where orthodoxy is optional it will soon be prescribed: we replaced traditional religion with progressive pseudo-religion that does an end run around separation of church and state because it is a religion without a god. For anyone working in a major corporation or the government it is not optional and people get highly offended when their fundamentalist progressive assumptions are questioned.
We’ve gotten to an unfortunate point where the parties dictate what their constituents believe in, rather than the constituents’ organic feelings and beliefs steering the direction of the parties.

I'm starting to feel like these hard-left types are still going on about the religious right from all the way back in the 90's. Just read through the comments if I'm not making sense. All of them go after religion... I'm not religious, but I still think tranny kids or abortion even after the kid is born is kinda fucked. I'm a liberal according to political tests, but I don't agree with most of the bullshit being spewed out by the left... I think ever since 2016. Sorry I ranted...
