Do people spell it as “gray” or “grey” in the country you live in?

I prefer “grey” as a descriptor, but “gray” for the color. In the US, “gray” is more common for both. However, i read “grey” in a book or story in skool. I thought it was a misspelling, but the teacher corrected me when i pointed it out and explained that “grey” is the common English spelling. I don’t even remember what we were reading at this point, but i think it was used to describe a somber mood or a gloomy day. Which is why i think i prefer that spelling for that context. It was a long time ago though and i could be cracked. Might not have as good of a reason as i think and it probably seems silly to others anyway.

We spell it gray. But some people, mostly in the UK, spell it grey.

Grey in the UK but its one of those words that makes you question yourself because you'll also see the American gray a lot.

Originally it was spelt with an ae which might explain things

I've seen it both ways but, the way I figure it, "gray" has a bit more brown to it than "grey" so, they're slightly different shades.

In standard American English, the color is gray.
Grey is a surname.

I guess we’re taught grey here, as they teach British English in school, but most of the English we see/hear outside of school is American, so I use both. It becomes a mix.
