Trending & News Hard C like Keltic.
Unless I'm talking about the Boston Celtics, then I pronounce it like they do, with a soft C. It's their team, so they can pronounce it like they want.
There are all kinds of words that have changed pronunciation over the years. Language evolves and is regional. I don't like saying one is "right" and another is "wrong".
I teach English as a second language very part time. I always teach local dialect, because that's what the students will hear. If they are advanced enough to not be confused, I will point out the difference. For beginners I stick to local dialect only.
I say "Sell Tick" as in "Boston Sell Ticks".
My wife says "Kell Tick" as in "Kell Tick Woman".
Both are acceptable although the uptight now say it should be "Kell Tick".

Celtic languages are phonetic so if it were an S sound it would be spelt Selt. Neither Irish or Welsh has a letter K although Scots and Breton do. Hence I would say Keltic.
Irish and scots-ceilteach
Welsh-celtaidd
Not sure of the Breton word but it's probably similar to the welsh.
Interestingly If you pronounce it Selt you get the Icelandic for sold and in Northern English dialects it means the same thing. I wonder if Selt comes from Viking slave traders selling Irish captives.
It's the Boston Seltics, but Keltic culture/traditions. If you're speaking the language it's always called "K"eltic, which is the proper, Old World pronunciation.
Don't know how the sibilant "S" replaced the hard "K". But in the case of the basketball team, it did.

Do you pronounce the word, tomato like tomato or tomato?
There's a sports team called the Boston Celtics, as in Celery. That's how I pronounce it. I don't know of anybody that eats Kelery. And, seeing as how the Celtics wear Kilts and that's spelled with a K, why would Celtic be pronounced Keltic?
Usually with a hard c.

why does this whole comment thread know about a tandom sports team from boston lmao
I donโt watch sports and even Iโve heard kd them lol. They must be pjs of the more popular (nba, I think ๐) teams. I had actually just seen a commercial showing them having an upcoming
Team and anytime
I hear about them I also think, hmm I know they pronounce it with a c but Iโve also seen it pronounced with a s
Well I never see any national basketball teams. No commercials, nothing. It's just not a sport people care about over here. Could list every footy team in my country though, that's the shit we love
do you prounounce same thing like same thing or same thing?
Me personally I pronounce it like same thing. No but to be fr I was trolling and Iโm very surprised at how many people are answering seriously lol
I pronounce it Keltic (as if it was a K), unless I'm talking about the football team, then it's Seltic (as if it was an S).
by the way, Celtic is a football team in Glasgow, Scotland.
Simples...
Celtic with a hard "c." For some reason the NBA Boston Celtics have always pronounced it with a soft "c."
Keltic is the correct and more culturally appropriate way to pronounce it.
I pronounce it Kell-tick, unless it's the Boston basketball team, which is Sell-ticks.
Celtic anyone who pronounces it Celtic is just weird
Celtic, unless it's the football (soccer) team. In which case, Celtic (as in Seltzer).
Neither. I pronounce it like Celtic.
I definitely go with Celtic...
Wait what? I have heard it pronounced keltic.
