If you accidentally killed someone and it was really bad, such that you couldn’t convince others it was accidental, would you turn yourself in?

I don’t think it’s any secret that our justice system is flawed. We have convicted innocent people and let the worst kinds of criminals go free.
Say there’s no way you could prove your innocence, but you might be able to get away with it if you can cover the whole thing up. Do you turn yourself in and take your chances with a broken system? Or do you dispose of the evidence and pretend that their life meant nothing?

Yes. For one the alternative is to cover up the death and that's a lot harder than people think even with perfect disposal of the body. Further that is ethically the wrong choice because it denies their loved one's closure and further makes you look guilty. The odds of getting caught if you try to cover it up is really high especially since you specified it was an accidental killing.

That likely means there's blood or DNA evidence of them everywhere for one for another if you're the last place they were seen they're immediately going to put you at the top of the suspect list. Even if it looks really bad if you voluntarily turn yourself and keep the story straight there's a solid chance the jury will decide it doesn't make sense for it to be murder. You'll likely still get manslaughter but that's a lesser charge with less time and people are a lot more sympathetic depending on the circumstances when death is an accident.

If you have a murder charge, you're unemployable and will never be able to find housing ever again. You've completely ruined your life. Manslaughter is an accident and as a result is less frowned upon. It will make those things a lot harder still, but the alternative is to cover it up and live with the guilt shame and fear of getting caught and if they do catch you now, they will never believe you when you tell them it was an accident because you tried to cover it up.

Just hire a lawyer. No bullshit. Step by step the day and let the lawyer have a written statement and let them call the police. Have the lawyer speak for you.

It really would be though. I can wrap my head around a crime of passion, or even a vendetta. But i don’t think i could live with killing someone who didn’t deserve it. I’d have to spend the rest of my life doing magnanimous deeds every day just to make up for it, and i’d probably still be miserable.
