Charlie Kirk Pleads the Fifth When Asked His Age by Jan. 6 Committee

The deposition of conservative activist Charlie Kirk with the January 6 committee on May 24 was a rather brief one, official documents revealed, as the Turning Point USA founder pleaded the Fifth Amendment to avoid responding to a range of questions from his age to his education level.

On Wednesday, the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters on January 6, 2021 released the transcript of its interview with Kirk, who, under oath, was questioned about his role in the riots and in casting doubt on the 2020 presidential election.

Kirk—like many others interviewed by the Jan. 6 committee—invoked his right against self-incrimination under the Fifth Amendment to avoid responding to the panel's questions about his age, his highest level of education and his role in founding Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and its affiliate Turning Point Action (TPA), a conservative youth activist organization which the New York Times reported to be funded by conservative megadonors.

In response to all but one of the more than 70 questions the committee asked Kirk during the interview on May 24, the activist responded: "I am invoking my Fifth Amendment right."

The committee asked the conservative activist about his whereabouts on January 6, 2021 and whether he knew before news of the riots broke out that "something like that" could happen on the day. He took the Fifth.

A few days before the attack on the Capitol, Kirk wrote in a now-deleted tweet that TPA would be sending more than 80 buses of Trump supporters to Washington, D. C., to "fight for the president."

"The historic event will likely be one of the largest and most consequential in American history," Kirk tweeted. "The team at @TrumpStudents & Turning Point Action are honored to help make this happen, sending 80+ buses full of patriots to DC to fight for this president.

They denied JJ because he's so obviously a maga stooge, and most republicans were falling in line at the time to cater to Trump. Liz and Adam were the only ones not kissing the ring. My opinion prob ain't worth much as I'm not into politics and I didn't even know CK. But as a neutral person with no biased - to me it sounds like if he said he pleads the fifth to practically ALL the 70 questions including his age and education (things easily known) I think he was making a statement rather than deliberately avoiding or exposing himself to the more serious questions. It's like someone saying no comment to the media, or police, to protect one's rights and protect oneself from your words being twisted against you even if innocent. Or it can be a "just leave me alone" stance. It doesn't confirm or deny innocence.

The Fifth Amendment does not simply apply when you are guilty of a crime. It applies when your statement could be used against you in a criminal prosecution. Based on the weaponization of the DOJ under the Obama and Biden Administrations, I would have advised Charlie Kirk to invoke the Fifth Amendment in response to any questions asked of him.

I could answer the questions about his role in creating TPUSA, his age, and education level. He started it as a small group in high school with the intention of getting more children into politics. It was slightly right leaning but had a fair number of leftists. It was also focused on being inclusive and made sure to have people of all genders, races, and socioeconomic classes. I'd need to check my Facebook, but I do know that he graduated within a few years of when I graduated high school. From what I recall, he didn't go to college in person, because he was not accepted to West Point. Although there's no proof, he claimed it was due to Affirmative Action. After not being accepted he started making TPUSA a national player. If he took any college classes after this, it wasn't in person.
