you'd be surprised how much everything would fall apart if everyone wasn't paying a tiny part for keeping shit running. sure we can discuss about how much is spent in wrong places but without it, many of the things we take for granted won't exist. like no police. there would be absolute chaos. gang criminality and probably a new military government that govers by force since there's nothing to stop that. healthcare for people who can't pay for it out of pocked would be gone. so people would be dying like crazy. streets, rails and litterally every other important infrastructure would fall into disrepair which won't show today or tomorrow but these things don't keep existing forever without constant investment. public schools will vanish. society will return back to the middle ages just education wise. everything would be full of trash cause nobody would be paying for trash collection. support for elderly and children as well as publicly funded social programmes will be gone and way more people fall from "getting by" into "severe crysis" and that won't be causing chaos only for the people in need. they'll riot and be violent cause they have nothing to lose so everyone suffers.

Taxes are great. They pay for healthcare, schools, roads, the fire brigade, waste collection, police, public transport, industry regulators, and much more besides.
The problem is that the very wealthy don't pay anywhere near enough, which means that far too much of the burden falls on people on moderate incomes (since the very poor rightly pay little or no tax).
Of course, if you're living in some backwards country that doesn't even provide universal healthcare, and you're still paying a lot of tax, then you can justifiably feel ripped off.

But here's a thought. There's a huge percentage of people who claim more in government benefits than they pay in tax, about half of the UK and I'm assuming the USA. Most of a country's tax income comes from a relatively small number of people. Chiefly from the financial districts.

Therefore the contribution of the average person is relatively insignificant so is it really needed? But if taxes are abolished there'll be a push to reduce wages accordingly so I doubt you'll be better off. Again it goes back to my first point, the government will simply say, "You don't financially contribute so shut the fuck up."

Well, of course I don't like having to pay taxes. I don't like a class out there who can just decide to RAISE how much percentage of my labor I now have to give away. They literally can just decide that want to raise them.

I know it is necessary. I've heard of theories where you do not pay taxes and every tax is paid by your purchases. So you can control your own taxes in a way. If you buy a lot of things then you pay a lot in taxes. If you are frugal and don't buy a lot then you won't spend as much in taxes. I don't know if it is feasible.

I don't mind reasonable taxes that are used in reasonable ways. But we have unreasonable taxes used in very unreasonable ways.

For the above graphic, the orange part looks like Social Security, which is actually a pretty good deal for most people. That will translate to a pretty good income when you reach retirement age. It's not as good as having the discipline to save on your own and invest it, but most people don't have that discipline.

Taxes that are well and wisely spent are beneficial to the population as a whole. That's not the case in many countries, especially in the USA. In other countries, like Norway or Iceland, you get something valuable for your hard earned tax money. Imagine that.

I want the big pot holes on my street fixed I want money for the old people to help buy them food and I want billionaires to pay more taxes than me. Because as of right now you and I we both pay separately.
