Do you think Naturalized Citizens should run a government?

Arnold Schwarzeneggar ran California and did a decent job. They can't run the entire country (barred from the presidency), but if people elect them for the limited political positions they can achieve, then it's peoples' choice, based on the candidates ostensible qualifications.
We have loads of native citizens who aren't good politicians or people. We might find great politicians who believe in our political process and want to improve the lives of all Americans. There are bad actors on the native and non native sides. But I'm not going to tar someone just because they weren't born here.
@Screenwriter Americans have a shared heritage. There used to be a TV show that was made in the 60s called Route 66. It was about 2 guys in a Corvette who travelled around the country working odd jobs and meeting all kinds of people. The country was a lot less homogenized back then so there were vast differences in people in different places. However, they had a lot mote in common than they had differences. The things that they had in common was the understanding of freedom and the advantage of being American.
@exitseven I don't think you have to be born here to understand this. This is why so many immigrants come here. For freedom and the advantages that freedom offers.
@exitseven I saw a roomful of people taking the swearing in for citizenship. You've never seen such beaming faces. Real joy. And sadly, the certificates showing that you're a naturalized citizen are beautiful. Our birth certificates are shams in comparison. I'm envious in that one area. I also found out it takes a decade to be naturalized. It's a difficult proposition.
I remember when my grandmother became an American Citizen. It took her a long time to get it done but she framed the certificate and proudly displayed the little American flag that she got. I do not know what happened to the flag after she died buy that would be one thing that i would have loved to have.
@exitseven right, uh huh. A TV show, for example. right.
I think that the President and VP need to be native born citizens. The founders recognized that America will be made up of immigrants. However they made a safeguard in making the President and VP the exception. As the photo depicts, we have 3 politicians who clearly hate America and all it stands for. They work hard for the destruction of the country. However, they are in the minority. But the president and VP are the most powerful people in the country.
There is a difference between being OF someplace and being FROM someplace. The founders understood this but if you cannot understand it, you probably never will.
It's an interesting question. Since I was a young kid, first learning about government and elections, it always seemed weird to me that the President and Vice President of the US must be a natural born citizen, yet none of the other political positions require that.
I've always wondered why the Forefathers who crafted the US Constitution did that. Did they just forget to add it for members of Congress? Or was it intentional to only restrict it to the President and VP?
@AviatorTom I remember learning the answer to this might be to prevent a foreign country from planting a bad actor here to control the executive branch. I don't think I'm using the correct language to describe this but something along those lines. I'm not 100% sure but this coming to mind. It is definitely interesting.
@Friendlybro79 That makes sense but it doesn't prevent a bad actor becoming powerful in Congress. Then again, the Forefathers didn't really understand how Congress would work
I agree. Bad actors can definitely be foreign or domestic which stinks. Can't people just be nice? Seems simple but yet so hard for humanity
So only Native Americans should be allowed to run for office? Other then them everyone else is naturalized.
With things as they are now it is a shame it hasn't been that way! We would have never heard the degusting, sick, vial, name of trump, vance, noam, bondi, and the kitti kitti young slut karoline
Pretty sure she started at 12 working for Epstein which is how she was able to sack a husband and meet trump in one of those special rooms. She makes Lawinski of Clinton times look like a nun!

Honestly people from other countries shouldn’t be allowed to run for office here. They bring values that don’t align with America’s values. Sharia Law will never fly here in America. Three of the people in that picture would welcome it with open arms.
That’s just one example of differences that make foreigners not a good choice for office. Sorry (not sorry) if I offended anyone.
If someone immigrated here legally and is American, telling them they can't run parts of it is saying we're all not equal, and that's not what the constitution says. You can't be like your not really American even though you immigrating here legally.
That's like saying you're a second class citizen
They can’t run for president or VP…. How is that different. And that is in the constitution
I think it's fine to let them run for municipal level things but the ladder should end at the state level. Meaning you shouldn't be a naturalized citizen as a senator touching federal topics. And it should be incredibly difficult so that it doesn't happen often. Foreign entities are already gaming the system but it's a beautiful idea that someone can come here, take part in our government and maybe pass the torch onto their kids.
@Telekinetic-Potato If the President and Vice President die in office or are removed via impeachment or the 25th amendment, the Speaker of the House becomes President What if that person is not a native-born American? Interesting Constitutional question.
@AviatorTom Oh, yea that's an interesting thought. Partially why I think first generation immigrants should be confined to state level politics but if that were to happen I think at the very least a temporary exception could be made. I'm talking about foreign powers gaming the system.
We have had a few people become citizens from other countries that are fantastic conservatives because they did bring with them the problems of their country. As long as your allegiance it to the US ( unlike the two on the right of your picture) and they embrace US values and not try to turn the US into what they ran from. Then fine.
The real question is: why was a convicted criminal such as trump allowed to run for president?
A naturalized citizen is a citizen, period. The only thing a naturalized citizen is disqualified from is running for President. Anything else is, for the most part, unconstitutional.
The problem is that they don't adopt American values and just look to bring whatever things from the country they came from here to America.. It's annoying and crazy..
It's hostile takeover and every person who votes for "naturalized citizens" is a fool for fell for deception.
You know, if you ever want to improve that broken English of yours, you could always ask a naturalized citizen for help.
Anyone who runs for office in America and flies another country's flag over the US flag should be immediately kicked out of office. And that goes for Israel as well as Somalia.
1.) If you want to be taken seriously, please use proper grammar.
2.) If the person is qualified, absolutely.
After Pres. Pedo, …. I don’t see why not! I’m open to it. Sure.
tRump isn't a naturalized citizen. But he is a totally unnatural human being.
If you vote for someone that does not have American values, prepare yourself for things that will trouble you. As flawed as we Americans are, we have built something special.
I could accept that with time of residency and age guidelines
Because you're an intelligent man, and perhaps if they're citizens for about 15 years.
Fuck the government.
Both sides
No Not at All!
Sure, why not?
No I don’t.
