Due to cancel culture and the tendency to single out people with opinions that aren't the popular one, do you feel that younger people now are raging online becuase they feel they aren't allowed to say what they really think in public?
Perhaps it's been this way for all generations.
For me, I want to hear other peoples opinions and always encourage people to be open minded.
This is the heart of the problem in America as I see it. Not only are younger generations afraid of being shunned by their peers, they are afraid of being harassed, bullied, physically assaulted or even killed if they don't go along with the new violent Democrat radical left party agenda. So they become useful idiots for those in that party who seek to undermine the culture, language, borders and fabric of America and they become an army for their bidding.
It is a mental disorder similar to Stokholm Syndrome. They are captive to the radical Democrats who are now taking over the entire Democrat party and purging it of the "old school" moderates. (1)
Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and JFK would not recognize the Democrat party of today and are rolling over in their graves in despair of how the party's sole agenda is to "fundamentally transform" America from the greatest nation in the history of the human race into an unrecognizable third world hell hole.
This first came to my attention in the 1980s when I returned to college to get additional degrees (I have degrees in finance, real estate and political science).
A couple of the courses I took, were from a "renowned" Harvard professor who was considered one of greatest experts in American History in the world. BOY did I learn a lot from those courses! Here is what I learned:
1. America is the root of all evil in the world and is to be disrespected.
2. White people are oppressors and everyone else is a victim.
3. Capitalism is at the heart of inequality and poverty and must be replaced by socialism or preferably communism.
I could not believe my ears and eyes. What changed between the time I had learned American history in my earlier school years and then? I was literally flabbergasted! And if you didn't regurgitate the precise propaganda you were fed on exams you received a failing grade.
This was not education, it was INDOCTRINATION. This was an early example of exactly what you are talking about. Intimidation by the left-wing captors of the curriculum to inflict the Stockholm Syndrome cancer on our young people. And since then the academic cancer has metastasized throughout the country at every level of education. We have several generations now of ignorant people who hate their own country based on the fake revisionist history that they were taught.
I knew then and there that something bad was happening to the country. And I knew it was coming from the left. This was at one of the top universities in the world mind you. It scared the shit out of me and I have been doing what I can to warn people about it ever since then.
If this isn't stopped, America will go the way of the many other failed nations that have suffered the fate of socialism, communism and oppressive dictatorship.

In my comment I failed to nail down the connection between what I wrote and the question you asked in the post.
The point I was trying to make is that the political left (which is now almost entirely in control of the Democratic Party) in America has intimidated younger Americans into being afraid to express their views by use of name calling, attempting to humiliate, and even threatening violence against them if they say anything that does not support their (the Democrats) agenda.
As is the case with other leftist movements in other countries around the world, they engage in censorship by intimidation. It is a standard practice of socialists and communists. They do not want any views to be heard but their own.

Trump had exactly nothing to do with it. If someone with any authority said the exact same thing about Jimmy Kimmel's family, he'd have lost his mind and demanded they be locked up for life - but it's perfectly okay when he does it. Note that Kimmel is right back on the air criticizing Trump.

Younger people are in general less assertive and confident in their own opinions. But there is also the fact that younger people spend a lot more time inside and on their phones, not building the social skills they need to assert their own opinion outside. I don't see a lot of them raging... But if they do, it could be pent up frustrations from not feeling safe to share their thoughts.
I do believe a lot of young men feel that way. Especially if they don't have a good network of male friends (who I believe are more comfortable in conflict and gives a space to share more controversial thoughts. From what I've noticed, men can hold other men accountable without pushing them away entirely. I was amazed when in a group project watching two men go at each others throats as I shrunk into my chair and then they laughed right after as if nothing happened.)
I think there has always been etiquette around what opinions are okay and not okay to share though. And in some ways, that room has expanded, in others it has not.
Because of a documentary I saw. Highlighted how young men are being pushed from society and hence turn to more closed spaces online where they can share their opinions freely without judgement.
I think if anything, younger people, especially those still in school, are more emboldened now to speak out because unlike days past, they have a platform that can reach a nation right in the palm of their hand. Make a quick Tik Tok against an injustice, it gets picked up, authorities/schools/parents/communities get involved, and then something may happen in their favor or they end up making it to the national news. That never happened in my day. The most that ever happened was a few classmates took notice, but never did anything, and then it just gets eventually killed because you were threatened with suspension or detention.

It's not a case if being afraid, it's being wise enough to know when to keep your mouth shut. People think they're being clever spouting controversial stuff in public, sure it'll win you praise from a few but it's more likely to come back and bite you in the ass later.

Not because they have nothing to say, but because saying the “wrong” thing can come with real consequences now.
Cancel culture made people louder online but quieter in real life, anger feels safer than honesty.
But every generation has had its version of this.
The difference today is the speed and reach of judgment.
Open minds are rare and that’s why they matter.
Most people in my generation are too emotional about everything. That's why it's difficult for them to tell what they want to tell without appearing like a weirdo.
Maybe they consume too much media passively and express themselves too rarely in an credible and polite way.
When talking is silver but being quite is gold, what is being eloquent then? Platinum?
They aren't "allowed" to express their opinions in public? Or they are too insecure and need to be liked so much that they don't have the courage to say what they really think / believe? I am from the "Age of Aquarius" generation we spoke out on everything, We paid the price. But we spoke out. Few of us died because the retaliation came in the form of beatings, However some did. Being in the medical field I had to deal with those who lived. Working in the ME's office I dealt with those who died. What has changed is the fact that the current generation is significantly more hostile. Gun play is commonplace.

I think it's more about the younger generations being more and more frustrated and so it's more about them lashing out in a place where it doesn't hold too serious consequences for doing so.

Your right to express your opinions doesn't extend to attacking people with differing opinions, nor does it extend to vandalism, violence, taking over buildings or streets, destroying cars on the streets, or trying to burn down police stations while blockading officers inside. People who do those things should go to jail or prison, regardless of which side they are on.
But under Biden, one side was almost completely ignored and allowed to commit violence and destruction at will. You know, with destructive riots being described as "fiery but mostly peaceful protest". Meanwhile, those on the other side, who literally did nothing illegal, were thrown in jail.

I think they used to be but after over a decade of this abuse, they've learned to be less scared of it and just say what they think. Seeing Kirk assassinated and Trump nearly meeting the same fate has really lit a fire under them I'd say.
