Contributed maybe but not the primary cause. The primary cause is rot from within from Slave Owners who became Confederates who became Dixiecrats who became Tea Party who became MAGA and finally found a rotten orange Messiah who looks just like them to overthrow the country and ruin the economy with a centrally managed Authoritarian philosophy... you know... US is a dead man walking. Too much spending , no morals , taking Gold of standard , too many wars we never win , too much National Debt. US is going to fail soon. We killed ourselves from within. Corrupt politicians.

I dont think they were in any capacity a full reason for a decline. But a peak is always followed by declined. This was probably, strictly geopolitical speaking, the peak of the U. S.

The US had to rebuild all these countries and had to assume the role of the world's police force. All this has been a drain on American resources.
