Yes. Because that style of font is heavily associated with Germany. Hitler banned most font styles except a few gothic types. I think it's clear that anyone using them today is doing it to send a not so subtle message pretty much the same way Musks salute did.
No. Gothic came in medieval because it was easy to write with hand. Before Gutenberg Press books were written with hand and gothic alphabet was one of the rule how to set charters.
Old Germanic was written with runic alphabet.
„Germanic“ means the tribes, the region, the language family. „Gothic“ is (in this context) a letterset.
