Why are Republican states called Red States. ?

When I was a kid Communists were knows as "Reds". You would think that democrat states would be red. Does anyone know how it all came about? was it something from The Matrix?

It's left-wing media propaganda. Prior to the 2000 election Republicans were Blue due to the history of the Union Army wearing Blue uniforms and Democrats were Red (Communists), but the media used their influence to brainwash their consumers that Republicans are now the Enemy Reds and Democrats are now the Blue Blooded Americans so that when their Socialist push for power that we are experiencing now occurred that people couldn't easily claim well isn't obvious that the Democrats are communist. They wear Red, they wave red flags like Communist China, the USSR, and Nazi Germany... They have red flags like ANTIFA... It's a tactic of misdirection just like how the media tells you a man is a woman or that National Socialists (Nazis) are right-wing when they are fucking Socialists. They know Socialism/Communism has a bad smell in America, they know Red is associated with the bad guys through the Nazi flag from WWII, the Russians from the Cold War, the red star of North Korea from the Korean war, the red flag of Chinese Communist Party and the brutal oppression in the Tienanmen square, and the entire history of the Rednecks who were Socialist Unionized Miners who fought the West Virginia National Guard at the Battle of Blair Mountain. The Democrats don't want you to recognize a zebra by it's own stripes. So they project their sins onto their enemies. They call Republicans Rednecks. The left-wing media portrays the Republicans as the Reds in their iconography in political coverage. This is all so they can push a narrative that the Republicans are the bad guys because that feeling is already steeped in American history. The Reds are bad... That is the power of propaganda, and the sheep that watch the media eat it up.

I don't remember the exact circumstance and date, But the newest commentator, Dan Rather switched the coloration of the parties. From blue to red and red to blue because they did not want to associate the Democratic Party with communism, which of course, it is. Honestly, I do not know how he pulled it off.

This is exactly correct. But it goes further - the Democrats (who largely controlled the media at the time) INTENTIONALLY inverted the colors of the parties in an effort to distance the Democratic party from its socialist associations. Prior to this election, the left was invariably depicted as "red" because of their alignment with socialism. So, when this election was predicted to be very close - and thus a big media story - it was decided that it was a good time to distance the Dems from the color red and the socialist associations that the color suggested (which were true, of course), and so they convinced the media to assign red to the Republicans. And because the race was so close, the Republicans didn't want to waste any political capital by protesting against this color choice, so no one did. It was, I must say, a smart, though very deceitful move by the Democrats.

@DryGermanGuy Nothing in that article goes against what I said - in fact, it reinforces it. Use some reading comprehension. Per the article, back when such charts were first made, they assigned BLUE to Republicans and RED to Democrats, and though he says that, AT THE TIME, he didn't do that because of the association of red with communism, but instead to "liberal values", years later, for the Bush election, those colors were swapped - by EVERY news outlet at the same time - to reduce the association between the Democrats and communism, at a time when it was becoming more and more clear that the Democrats were pushing the Marxist agenda in other forms and under other names.

Of course, no one is going to admit that that was the reason for the color swap - many probably don't even know that was the reason. This is what's called SUBVERSION - doing things to subtly change people's thought patterns and associations.

I bet you'd be surprised to learn that during the Cold War, the KGB (the "Intelligence" aka spy agency of the USSR) spent only 15% of their budget on espionage, because they spent 85% on SUBVERSION. The CIA learned from this, and now they too spend a lot of money and effort on subversion. That's something that Snowden proved pretty definitively.

The colors were chosen because of their association with the US flag, but i think applied more or less arbitrarily by news outlets during presidential elections. In fact, the colors weren’t associated with specific parties until the late nineties. They just picked a candidate and gave him red, and his opponent blue.
Certainly they didn’t opt for white because of racial connotations.

The US flag is red white and blue. When election results are shown on the US map, each state is colored to show which party wins the state. Both Republican and Red start with the letter R so Red is used for Republican states. White is the default color, so the remaining color, Blue, is used for Democrats.

USA is actually one of the few countries where the left wing party is blue and not red/purple/pink. I can think of Japan and South Korea, but nothing more.

I do not know the origins but red was assigned to Republican and blue was assigned to Democrat so when you watch election coverage the graphics show areas won by Dems in blue and Reps in red.

A state went red or blue.
