I think I need a 1/2 moa AR. What say you?

Creedmoor is tested, tried and true.
The fury is just the hot new thing right now.
Frankly, i don’t trust any civilian firearm to be true milspec. So you’re putting true military rounds into a machine that might not actually contain the chamber pressure. If you’ve ever seen a firearm literally explode under fire, you probably wouldn’t take that chance. I know i won’t.
The ballistics are impressive for a compact rifle though. I hear you about the case pressure though. And I've seen some cases of failure of the hybrid case design.
They said the 6.5 Creed was the "Hot new thing" too... remember?
Hindsight is always 20/20.
6.5 if you are not going to shoot at anything wearing armour.
Cheaper and better availability of options like there's even lead free hunting rounds.
6.5 creedmoor
Reasons?
It was built from the ground up to be specifically made for accuracy by Hornady. The 6.5’s have some of the very best ballistic coefficients there is. You can also get the M1A chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. The ammo available for it is readily available and you have a wide choice of ammo manufacturers to choose from plus the prices are reasonable
The 6.8 is actually a 270 and the 270 as far as I know was never popular in any type of target shooting. In fact finding match bullets if you load your own are hard to find
I've got a bolt action 6.5 creed already and am happy with it. It does really well with the 130 Bergers
Just not sure if it's the way to go on an AR platform. Being that it would need an AR10. Not to mention the shorter barrel limiting the muzzle velocity.
I haven't done much research on the 6.8x51 other than it having higher case pressure and only needing an AR15 receiver.
But I agree, the 6.5mm 140s are impressive.
I’ve never cared for trying to rechamber guns for calibers they weren’t designed for. Such as trying to make 1911 a 9mm. It just causes problems. I think the M1A is a better choice for a full power cartridge like the Creed than an upsized AR
Yeah, I'm gonna do some more research on the 6.8.
I've got some thinking to do on what role I need it to fill. It'd be awesome to have a 1,000 yard AR, but maybe I should be looking for KE and accuracy at sub 500.
So many options!
The way I see it is if the silhouette shooters use it then it has enough power to topple steel targets and have minimal recoil plus incredible accuracy. They shoot 7mm-08 and 6.5 almost exclusively. Anything smaller and they just don’t have the KE to actually topple the targets. Anything bigger is too much recoil. I don't know how the 6.8 would fare in silhouette competition.
No question the 6.5 and 7mm have higher BCs. And apparently I was wrong about the.277 Fury being compatible with the AR15. That's the 6.8 SPC.
Looking at the data though, the higher muzzle velocity of the.277 Fury translates to less drop and more KE than the 6.5 cm across the range despite the lower BC. And that's a 16" barrel on the Fury.
Interesting. I personally would stick with what’s tried and true and readily available
I hear ya.
