Sad story this young boy jumped in the water and bitten by a shark... died today. His friend was very brave to jump in the water and pull him to safety, but he died some time later.

i have a phobia for them so i really don't know.
perhaps if i have something to protect us from it
cuz in reality it is not really a matter of courage since we really don't have any chance of saving ourselves from it unless we have something to attack or at least make the blasted fish not be able to bite us
I would have to. Living with the knowledge that a friend died while i did nothing to help would be overwhelming. I’d rather die trying to help than living feeling like a coward.
Says a lot about you. A+!
that shark looks to be at least 3 times as heavy as those people, so no, i dont think me risking my life would be of any help at all. i'd try throwing rocks at it, maybe, but calling for help is usually the best thing to do, or so we've been taught
No.
In water we humans aren't top predators and on land only with a combat ready assault rifle. Predators kill the prey it's a rule of nature.
Most sharks seem to bite and leave and wait til dead then come back, thus so many people can be pulled from water... thats my opinion based upon reading. In some case, they come back and back... frenzy type. The shark cannot take any damage else the other sharks will eat them, so they are cautious.
But I don't know I could do it either...
Sharks don't eat people. Some poor guy has been mistaken for a seal or has been startled. They are like snakes... incredibly deadly, but they gain nothing from attacking people.
@bddddd Why do the bodies not return? someone is eating them. When it's murky water like it was, they get interested... as are hungry. Bull sharks are more aggressive.
@lightbulb27 Well, if it's on chatGPT it must be true:
"Here’s the clear breakdown:
Humans are not on a shark’s menu. We’re too bony, too low-fat, and unfamiliar compared with seals, fish, or turtles.
Most incidents are mistaken identity (especially in murky water or surf zones where a human silhouette looks like a seal from below).
Many bites are “test bites.” Sharks explore with their mouths. Unfortunately, even one bite can be catastrophic for a human.
In a large proportion of cases, the shark lets go and swims away, which is strong evidence it didn’t intend to eat the person."
Yes, sometimes bodies are not recovered. But that's true of ocean drownings in general, shark-related or otherwise. Heck, we were careless enough to lose a sitting Prime Minister (think of a President embedded within the legislature minus some reserve powers given to the English Monarch's vice-regal which have only been used once in 125 years) who walked into the ocean and was never seen again. No sharks were present.

I would, but that’s just my character. I’ll stop on a highway to help a stranded motorist or jump start someone’s car in the middle of winter. There’s obviously risk to all that but I’ve never been burned.
I like to think so. But around here we prefer to help the sharks https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpq7g74e9rvo.amp
shark avoiding a larger preditor or stuck trying to catch a smaller? That's very nice of them!
Lots of dolphins in that area so it's possible they had attacked it and drove it inshore
corageous, stupid or both... lol
call it whatever you want but I would sure try for sure, yes...
Depends how big is the shark, and how much I value the friend in question. If the shark is too big trying to save your friend will simply double the portion for the shark.
if i could do that without getting mauled myself, sure. otherwise, fuck em.
I'd try to help anyway i can
