There's an ancient children's joke of two men being stalked by a lion. One slips on some running shoes and his friend tells him they won't make him run faster than the lion. He replies "I only have to run faster than you".
But question is would you nobble someone to assist in your escape from a predator?

This guy's ancestors have been on Earth 5 million years, his sense of smell is 7 times greater than a dog's, they can run faster than the fastest humans on Earth, lift 300 lb rocks, weigh up to 600 lbs, and have claws. So, I will do whatever the fuck I have to do.

This may sound like a joke, but really I know people and I could tell them that screaming doesn't help, and they look at you and continue screaming. Imagine that in the movie with the monsters that kill you if you made noise?

that would be an unfriendly thing to do. Two people making large "intimidating" sounds would prob be enough to scare off the bear.

Also, bears don't have a lot of turn radius, so zagging around trees or boulders could work.
