Semites = descendants of Shem from the old Testament.
Those descendants became the entire demographic of the Levant, West Asia and North Africa.
The name 'Semites' was then formalised by the linguistic faculty of universities few centuries back, to collectively refer to the populations who spoke Abrahamic languages, mainly Amharic (spoken in Ethiopia), Arabic and Hebrew (Aramaic was long gone out of spoken practice).

The term Semites or Semitic was NEVER meant to refer to only Jews in any way. It was purely for linguistic purposes and study, not even race or religion. Only language.

The Germans then, (who mostly had only Ashkenazi Jews living among them and also scattered around western Europe living among the Jew-hating Christian Europeans), started referring to their hatred of those Jews as "anti-semitism" in order to soften/ dilute their strong hatred and make it less criminal sounding and more a literary idea which would be easier to live with and maintain. Because 'anti' does not outright signify hatred, but just being 'against' something in virtue.

The Ashkenazi Jews then just ran with it as a perpetual victim flag, that 'anti-semitism' refers only to them and hatred towards them.

Factually though, "Islamophobia" (a poorly coined term) is also actually as much "Anti-semitic" in its practical use. Because Muslims who speak Arabic or Amharic or even Hebrew as their ancestral mother tongue, are also Semites.

And by that, Israelis/ Zionists are the biggest Anti-semites of all. 🤩 Because nobody hates the Arabs as much as them and their hatred towards the Arabs, diminishes the hatred Nazis had for the Ashkenazi Jews.

The original Israelites and descendants of Shem, the Mizrahim Jews, majority of them never left the Levant/ West Africa, North Africa. They scattered but stayed in the region maintaining continuous inhabitation of that region as the indigenous people.
