Thousands of companies have fled the US in search of cheap labor. Why don't the farmers do the same?

Rather than illegally move the workers to the farm, why not move the farm to the workers? Trump would not only NOT charge tariffs on your products coming back to the US, he can help with financial subsidies and incentives. We would be dollars ahead by moving this problem out of America. The problem with the US farming industry isn’t cheap labor. It’s the government subsidies to industrial farms, including FOREIGN owned farmland. China is the subject of much of that controversy. However, despite owning nearly half a million acres of farmland in the US, China isn’t even in the top three countries that own the most US agricultural land.

If we removed ALL foreign owners from US farmlands and turned subsidies toward family owned farms instead of the industrial farms, we could 100% control our own food supply in under a generation. We could tariff and import some luxury items, but we wouldn’t have to rely on foreign companies for any part of our food supply. Local, organic and whole foods would be accessible and affordable to all. Not only would this have a profound impact on our domestic economy and food supply, but it would afford us opportunities to improve our health the old fashioned way; through healthier food choices.

Most nations have susidies and other support to local farmers.

The reason is simply that if you moved all your vital food production to another country and that country decided to seize it, you would all starve. Or more realistically be begging the rest of the world to save you.

So you want some domestic agriculture. That's the start and end. It is generally a lot cheaper to import but almost every government has controls in place to allow the local market to compete.

Some American farmers know how to hire legal workers. But apparently most don't know how to do that.

Crops grow in certain environments. Crops are the thing that can't move short of climate change. In doomsday climate change scenario alaska and Greenland could be the last "breadbox" farland in the globe.

Long summer days. near 24 hours of sun light a day with milder shorter winters grows a lot of food. Have you seen the giant single crops? Most come from alaska.

Depends on the crop. Also how well do they grow. Like palm trees aren't native to LA but are shoehorned everywhere forcefully and look miserable.

It's called profit motivation. Take it a step further. You can grow x amount more in Mexico and then change an extra account to important and then add dons terrif because all your neighbors have to pay too.

These are the cards of landowners have and they will play them out the most profitable way they can or sell out to someone who can play this hand better.

Farms require land and natural resources. Believe it or not, it's not so easy to move land from location to location, nor is it easy to move. Things like streams and lakes. This sort of mitigates against the notion that you can move a farm wherever you might need it.

Whatever your vendetta is, get over yourslef. If you offered the most miserable American farmer $100 trillion to move their farm to Mexico, they'd tell you to get off their land and don't come back.
