It happened in the UK after Brexit. People wanted foreigners kicked out because they were taking 'their jobs' but when they left no one took the jobs. Supermarkets were badly hit because there weren't enough delivery drivers, slaughterhouses struggled with less staff, and contrary to what people think many crops need harvesting by hand because machines will damage them or can't judge when they're ready.

Most agricultural work is done by machine.

What is likely causing it is stores raising their prices, higher fuel prices, higher taxes and of course small farmers losing their farms. Big agriculture companies like Monsanto are also a major factor.
